MrSmallie Posted October 18, 2019 at 05:35 AM Share Posted October 18, 2019 at 05:35 AM What states allow felons from Illinois who have had their civil rights restored, own firearms? From the little I've been able to find, GA, OK, & NC don't allow anyone with any felony convictions to ever own a firearm, TX allows for use in home only (so no hunting), and KY is only rifles if post 1975. Anyone know about TN, MO, KS, MS AL ?
Quiet Observer Posted October 18, 2019 at 01:33 PM Share Posted October 18, 2019 at 01:33 PM Did you receive a pardon or just complete your sentence? How long ago was it? Has the record been expunged? In some states it makes a difference on whether it was a violent or non-crime.
MrSmallie Posted October 18, 2019 at 02:12 PM Author Share Posted October 18, 2019 at 02:12 PM Near 30 years agoNo pardon, not expunged.Appealed to circuit court to be able to get a FOIDIt was for burglary, which some states consider "violent"So FOID plus no issues with NICSWould really love to get out of Illinois. Preferably somewhere with no to little snow.
Gator4838 Posted October 18, 2019 at 02:28 PM Share Posted October 18, 2019 at 02:28 PM We were in trouble before the internet with such a inquiry.I would be going state to state, not looking for people's opinions or what they think they know, but the law as written.the state I want to relocate most to least, and then confirm with the licencing authority of that state.good luck. MrSmallie Posted October 19, 2019 at 03:48 PM Author Share Posted October 19, 2019 at 03:48 PM RE: Kentucky It appears that KY allows anyone who has their federal rights restored to possess a firearm. Is this open to other interpretation? Since I can get a FOID and have no issues with NICS, there shouldn't be an issue? Might even pay to contact a gun rights lawyer in KY and pay them $100 for thier opinion.
