Would you buy it again

Well I guess that's an interesting question. When I bought mine I only have a few criteria:

  • .308
  • Bolt action
  • Dependable
  • Shoot long(er) distances

That rifle has checked every box. I've put hundreds of rounds through it, let friends shoot it, and I've shot out to 200 yards easily. I'm sure I could go more but that's a limitation of the range I have available and the glass I think. A buddy of mine even used this rifle for hunting. It's a very good rifle and if all I needed was to check the same boxes over again I'd certainly buy that rifle.

After putting so many rounds through the Savage I've missed having a AR style magazines and I've considered putting it in a chassis and getting a heavier profile barrel because the thin profile barrel heats up rather quickly.

If I were buying a long range rifle now...and I still may do this... I'd buy a Ruger Precision Rifle in .308 and leave the Savage alone.

I hope that helps!

Yes that helps and the longer I procrastinate helps me find my perfect
Rifle I want a 24" heavy barrel aftermarket parts availability a good magazine but would be fine with a blind magazine too

Regarding the RPR, there's nothing I'd want to do to it out of the box. Stick some glass on it and shoot.

If I wanted something with an aftermarket and that I'm going to mess with the Savage is fine or I'd buy an older (pre Freedom Group) Rem 700. The aftermarket for the Rem 700 is insane, I just don't want a new one that will rust.

There's more cool aftermarket stuff for the 700. I would wanna at least pick up a Magpul stock and new mag well for it so I can use my PMAGs for 308. Sent from my VS987 using Tapatalk

I can't say that I know anything about Mossberg rifles. They make one heck of a shotgun though.

Let us know what you end up with. I was thinking about buying the Ruger but decided to wait. If I had a decent range close enough I probably would have bought it already.

Was conversing with my old lady's brother and he was telling me about some guy's Mossberg MVP with a sticky bolt. That's about all I know about Mossberg bolt rifles heh. Sent from my VS987 using Tapatalk
