By the way....he picked her up. His first thought should have been..."she is at least 18, looks young, and does not own a car.....hmmmm....."

I don't understand this statement. I know several people at work (all over 18) who don't own cars. I also recently read where a surprising number of young people (adults) don't even have a driver's license.

It was more than just not owning a car. It was someone claiming they were at least 18 while also (I'm assuming) looking quite young, AND not having a car.

While I have never lived in Austin, I have lived in Texas (lived in Dallas, Garland, and spent a lot of time...and almost moved to...Houston).

Two things (in relation to this topic)....there are lots of good looking women in Texas...and...it is very spread out. It isn't quite like Chicago where it is easy to get by without a car if you live in the city.

BTW, Chicago is the LEAST card dependent city in the US. https://www.aol.com/article/finance/2018/05/22/the-15-us-cities-where-its-easiest-to-live-without-a-car/23441053/#

Austin is the most card dependent city in Texas according to this article http://austin.culturemap.com/news/city-life/06-20-17-car-free-city-report-us-census-bureau-austin/ Although another article had Dallas as one of the most card dependent cities in the nation.

I'm guessing you don't get out much? When I was in my late teens and early 20s I drove around A LOT of my friends that didn't have vehicles when my stepson was in his late teens and early 20s he also drove around A LOT of his friends that didn't have cars as well, and I still know a lot of people 'younger people' that don't own a car and continue to bum rides from others because they can and/or simply because of the cost of owning a vehicle at a young age can be a deal killer. This is especially true now with companies like Uber and Lyft that can be more economical to many younger people vs owning a vehicle even outside cities. Also, consider this was a 'Sugar Daddy' site so wouldn't it be logical to expect that the girls expected to be picked up and catered to?

although it would be pretty difficult to not see the difference between a 16 year old and a 23 year old when you picked them up

I would argue against that all day long, with the proper makeup, dress and demeanor there are some 16 year olds that can easily pass for being in their early 20s

I certainly believe Cody performed a bonehead move picking up and paying for a call girl on a sugar daddy site, but I'm not going to jump to conclusions that he was aware she was under the legal age of consent.

I got out plenty.

But I'm not talking here. I'm talking Texas....Texans love their cars (trucks actually)....and when I was in Houston in my early 20's, I could not imagine getting around without a vehicle. Although Austin is fairly progressive for Texas, and is a big college town, so there could be more kids without cars there.

I also meant to add this earlier....I don't know how this works, but is it normal to pick up a call-girl in a cafe parking lot and drive them to a hotel? (As opposed to meeting them at the hotel? That would be an awkward ride to the hotel) Would she not get an Uber or Lyft there and back? He dropped her off at a What-a-burger (not the cafe he picked her up at?)....that is really odd (although at that point it was too late to worry about her age or the odd situation).

Anyway, I don't know if he knew she was underage or not. None of us have seen her, so we don't know how she looks. But we do know that she IS underage and I'm curious to know if there were warning signs.

BTW, I don't care about him getting a call girl. If he would have gotten busted for picking up a hooker in Vegas for a bachelor party, I would have laughed and moved on. It is the potential attraction to the youth of the girl that bugs me personally. Did she say she was 18? It is easier to pass for 18 when you are 16.....but that means that Cody was after an 18 year old from jump. Did she say she was 20? 22? The older she said she was online, the less creepy it becomes, but then when he meets her, the more obvious it would have been that she wasn't as old as said she was.

Bottom line, I don't think any person here would be too happy to have some 30 year old man knocking on the door to visit your 18 year old daughter, especially if the guy is seeking her out specifically because she is barely legal.

------------

With all that said...I'm going to try to look at this from a different angle.

If this was strictly about sex, and you are on a sugerdaddy site, there is probably something sad about a 28 year old looking for a sugardaddy....or is basically a straight up prostitute. In that case, maybe younger (but legal) is better.....

Hotels are trained to spot signs of sexual trafficking and prostitution, a couple not arriving at the hotel together is a red flag.

Also, if she didn't have a car it might be her security or her pimp (sometimes one in the same). It would give that person cover to follow Cody to the hotel without making themselves known if they got caught. The penalty for pimping is higher then anything in a sex crime so they are in the shadows watching but don't make themselves obvious.

I'd be curious to know who the "friend" was that tipped off Cody that he was being investigated. Possibly a drug addicted boyfriend/girlfriend pimping her out who was also under 18?

I was wondering about the "friend" as well.

Was it a "tip"....or was it attempted "blackmail" being that she researched him?

Why would "her" friend even know him?

Now that we’ve got the Supreme Court issue settled for the time being....

What’s up with Cody?

Still a creep.

Why is he a creep? If you only knew how many people today date online or pay for sex online. Lots of younger people do not know how to socialize and make relationships. The "social" left and technology have destroyed traditional relationships.

Undisputed facts (so far at this point):

1) He chose a website called "SugarDaddyMeet" dot com to shop for online sex services, which is prima facie evidence that was indeed looking for "young" girls to have sex with.

2) He bought and paid for sex services with a female that was to his knowledge at least 12 years his junior and the legal minimum age of consent.

He is a creep because he CHOSE to seek barely legal (and in my opinion, illegal with plausible deniability) paid sex services.

That makes him a creep, regardless of how awkward younger people are in person or who else does it, too.

Dick pics are really classy....

I am suddenly reminded...

Back when Snowden fled the country and dumped a bunch of info about what the NSA was doing domestically, one of the late night talk shows asked a bunch of people on the street if they were concerned that the government could read their email or collect info about their online purchases. No one was really concerned. They they asked if they were concerned that the government could have access to their online dick pics. Everyone was greatly concerned.

Just saying, times have changed a lot.

I agree, Tender, SugarDaddyMeet, and other hookup websites are strange to me, but seems like the younger crowd use them all the time.

Guy the other day was talking about girls being Sugar Babies to pay way through college.

Barely legal has been a thing since forever, still do not think that makes him a creep.

Creepy to me would be guy hanging out at a park, playground, or school looking for underage girls, or even looking to pick up severely intoxicated girls at clubs or bars.

Hardly anything new. I dated a few girls in my teens that later went on to be dancers and thus I ended up hanging around a lot of dancers in casual and friend settings outside the clubs. I would say easily 50% of them or better had at least one sugar daddy that was paying their rent, paying for their schooling or paying some other random bills and that was pre and early Internet days. One girl I knew was living in a fully furnished and paid for condo provided by her sugar daddy who only visited a few days each month when he was in town, the rest of the time she had the place to herself to do whatever she wanted as if she owned it.

Fairly common apparently. My sister had a couple up-scale condo rental properties. She rented one to an older guy. After a while she started getting noise complaints. On investigation there was a young woman living there. The renter told her he had rented it for his girlfriend. Complaints continued and she went over to talk to the woman. Some other guy that wasn't the renter was there. Fed up, she mentioned it to the actual renter. He ended the lease early. He was pretty POed that his sugar baby was entertaining other guys while he wasn't around.

I don't think the odd part is someone looking for (or being) a sugar daddy. Cody was only 30, and seemed like a handsome enough fellow....that does not seem like the age/type to become a sugar daddy. This "seemed" to be more like straight up solicitation for sex. I don't care either way about the legality of prostitution, I was thinking more along the lines of when I was 30, paying $500 to get laid would be the last thing on my mind. But as I type this, I guess it is cheaper and more direct than wasting hundreds of dollars and a bunch of time on a couple of dinner dates. However, in this case, the dick pics don't help.

I guess my issue is with Cody is more along the lines If she "looked" young, that is bothersome. Someone mentioned creepy would be hanging around at a playground. Well, if she is actually 16, it would be similar to a 30 year old hanging around the mall food court.

Cody is big gun guy....in Texas... I know Austin is pretty liberal, but it is still a college town. There had to be a few of these lurking around (recent college graduation pictures...so I'm assuming they are 22'ish).

Sesta-Fosta ensures that sugardaddy dot com will be in legal trouble pretty soon, and under those laws, it's likely that the girl that you knew would be declared as being sex trafficked.

FOSTA-SESTA (Fight Online Sex Trafficking - Stop Enabling Sex Trafficking) is about prosecuting web sites that KNOWINGLY facilitate sex services.

Craig's List stopped offering personal ads because of it. Ashley Madison is still going strong.

Rand Paul voted against it, because it's an erosion of the Safe Harbor provisions of the Communications Decency Act. Safe Harbor protects web sites unless they knowingly participate in criminal activity. For example, if someone uploads hate speech or pornography to YouTube, YouTube isn't prosecuted. They just take the video down. YouTube isn't knowingly in the business of distributing hate speech or pornography.

FOSTA-SESTA allows prosecution if the web site merely facilitates sex trafficking knowingly. It no longer has to be participating in it.

Personally, I think SugarDaddyMeet is blatant in a way that Craig's List never was. Men meeting women and simply giving them money isn't illegal, but it gets really hard to argue the web site doesn't know it facilitates prostitution.

LOL...

The deluded old fart thought that he was enough a few days a month for a young woman? hah.

He should have been glad that she was being mostly monogamous thus reducing his chance of STI's....

Feds shut down Backpage that scared Craigslist list which is the only one that really wasn’t promoting prostitution just hookups without charging.

Ars Technica

A little old, but ...

Aug 9, 2019

This morning, almost one year after an initial warrant for his arrest went out, Cody Wilson stood stoically in front of Judge Brad Urrutia in the 450th Criminal District Court in Travis County as cameras and a packed gallery watched. The founder and former director of firearms technology company Defense Distributed soon pleaded guilty to lesser charges stemming from an August 2018 incident with a female minor.

...

Prior to appearing in court, Wilson and his attorneys, F. Andino Reynal and Joseph Turner, bargained with the state of Texas to amend charges against the 3D-printed gun activist. Instead of sexual assault, Wilson stood accused of injury to a child, a lesser felony than what he originally faced. His guilty plea this morning now comes with a recommended seven-year probation period during which Wilson must register as a sex offender.

Wilson's formal sentencing has been scheduled for September 12. If the plea is accepted by Judge Urrutia as anticipated, Wilson will avoid prison in favor of that multi-year probation. According to the plead document, "injury to a child" is a third-degree felony, punishable by a term between two and ten years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice and a fine up to $10,000.

...

Later in the day, Travis County Assistant District Attorney Joe Frederick spoke to the Associated Press about the state's decision to amend the charges. He said prosecutors made the decision after extensive meetings with the victim and her parents.

...

Frederick also sent Ars clarification about the terms of Wilson's plea deal (given the text of the document can be hard to parse). In addition to the probation and sex offender registry, Wilson will agree to TCAR (Treatment and Counseling as Recommended by the Department of Probation), perform 475 community service hours, and pay a $1,200.00 fine. He will not be allowed to have any unsupervised contact with minors, and he will consent to keystroke/remote monitoring by the department "on any type of device he may access that could access the Internet."

B-b-b-bbut, but he’s a gun guy. A very creepy gun guy.

Hopefully the the blind, the desperate for allies at any cost and fellow creepy gun owners will stop making excuses for him and his behavior. Yuck.
