Briantime Posted May 18, 2018 at 01:37 PM Share Posted May 18, 2018 at 01:37 PM Hi there, I have come to the conclusion I think many before me have arrived at: I hate shooting at an indoor range. I have been to the ASC for an IDPA match and really liked it and would like to become a member. I checked out the website and it says they are taking applications for 2019. It also says that you are given priority if sponsored by an existing member. So.... Anyone on here a member that would like to sponsor me? I am planning on shooting the IDPA match there next week if you want to meet me in person and verify I am not a weirdo :-)
VannDaddy Posted May 18, 2018 at 02:41 PM Share Posted May 18, 2018 at 02:41 PM I don’t believe you need a sponsor. I joined last year, and even though I attend church with two ASC members, I don’t think sponsored me.

But there is time to fix that. I don't think I will be at the IDPA match, but I do go out there frequently. I know I will be spending most of the day out there on June 10. Let me know what looks open for you.Membership is capped at 2,500, which they reached at the end of last year. The reason they are taking 2019 applications now is because the only new members will be from the wait list, to fill in for departing members. I am not sure how long that wait list is now.Sent from my SM-G935V using Tapatalk

VannDaddy Posted May 18, 2018 at 02:45 PM Share Posted May 18, 2018 at 02:45 PM There was no waitlist. They were going to stop membership at a certain number, but I don’t believe that number has been met yet. I could be wrong though. I will probably be met this year if the prior trend keeps up. We reached 2500 at the end of last year and closed down membership. Last I heard, retention was around 92% this year. Now, the 200 or so memberships that opened up may have completely cleared the wait lust, but that does not mean there is no list. JDW Posted May 18, 2018 at 04:19 PM Share Posted May 18, 2018 at 04:19 PM There is a wait list and yes you do need a sponsor. ( I think??? ) <EDIT TO ADD..okay, I looked back at the thread and saw some other's say you need a sponsor only if you want to get bumped up on the list> As to what the exact numbers are on the wait list, I think we'll find out soon in our monthly update. I love ASC and since joining, have zero interest in ever going to an indoor range again. I know I read the next opening will be in 2019 fwiw. Best way to get the best scoop is to call the club. Lou Posted May 18, 2018 at 05:06 PM Share Posted May 18, 2018 at 05:06 PM Your best bet is to just email the ASC membership person with your questions. membership@Aurorasc.org Get the correct and most current info from the source.
Tvandermyde Posted May 18, 2018 at 06:04 PM Share Posted May 18, 2018 at 06:04 PM Last year we hit the 2500 member cap per the constitution. When the renewals were finalized we had a little over 245 people drop out or not renew. We went to the waiting list and pulled people in for prequalified orientation and inducted the new members. We have begun a new list. You can fill out the application and get set for next year. We have no idea what retention will look like for next year and how many opening we will have. You do not need a sponsor but as mentioned it will move you up higher on the list as we take sponsored applicants first. Renewals are due by March 31st. and then we take new member in in April. We most likely will run some orientations later this year

LOL things are looking amazing at my beloved ASC. Great job.
VannDaddy Posted May 22, 2018 at 04:27 PM Share Posted May 22, 2018 at 04:27 PM I apologize for the inaccurate information. I was unaware of the cap being hit. Hopefully therell be an email about orientation. My wife and I both went, but she was pregnant at the time and was not comfortable qualifying for shooting and wed both like to get qualified to draw. TRJ Posted May 22, 2018 at 05:49 PM Share Posted May 22, 2018 at 05:49 PM I think you need to seek out/email Nancy Donaldson if you want your holster draw cert. There are a few classes you could have taken that exempt you, Fortress Defense, Safer USA (I think), and a couple other big name trainers' classes will waive Nancy's class, but you still need to bring in your certificate to get your badge updated. You might want to contact this guy and get make sure you are subscribed to ASC member emails/newsletters technology@aurorasc.org

She's a great teacher, and took time to help each person out at the clinic the day we went. She also demonstrated some really fancy Cowboy Action Draws for us. Very talented and super nice woman.
