chicagoresident Posted February 11, 2019 at 02:19 PM Share Posted February 11, 2019 at 02:19 PM This is why the secular society is messed up - there is no forgiveness. Yes, people screw up. They do stupid things. But when those same people take steps to correct their mistakes, I think forgiveness should be given, or at least give them the benefit of the doubt.Exactly. How much money is Glock spending right now on the Illinois pro gun lobby? How much more visible is Springfield Armory going to be in the Illinois pro gun lobby? Every company makes mistakes. You won't know the integrity of a company until they make a mistake. How they attempt to acknowledge, then fix it speaks volumes of character. Raw Power Posted February 11, 2019 at 02:49 PM Share Posted February 11, 2019 at 02:49 PM It's not really a "boycott" if the company hasn't or can't come up with anything useful or interesting to sell. I think the problem, is that they're mostly a backwards looking company, without a lot of innovation, and I think that's why they got into the lobbying mess in the first place. They're not looking at what's ahead very effectively.
AlphaKoncepts aka CGS Posted February 11, 2019 at 02:50 PM Share Posted February 11, 2019 at 02:50 PM SA has made tremendous efforts to rebuild reputation and essentially say Sorry. While I don't believe their official excuse, their actions after the fact seem to beg for forgiveness. RRA on the other hand hasn't done anything to acknowledge their mistake. That being said some of the best gunsmiths have come out of Springfield Armory like Les Baer and others. Assembling something like an M1A is not like building an AR so they are competent in what they do. I've never seen their facilities, but I'm guessing they are relatively small despite competing with Glock and Sig.
RandyP Posted February 11, 2019 at 06:03 PM Share Posted February 11, 2019 at 06:03 PM I've been there getting some pre-arranged same-day warranty work on my GI 1911. It is not a huge facility, Perhaps 75,000-100,000 sq ft total in several smaller buildings? maybe a bit more. Tvandermyde Posted February 11, 2019 at 07:29 PM Share Posted February 11, 2019 at 07:29 PM I have met with the President and the owner a couple of times since the incident. I am convinced that Keller was acting outside his authority when he did what he did. I also believe they were cuaght flat footed by the whole ordeal. Hearing it told from the President's perspective of what Keller was and wasn't telling them at the time and he first press release about it was just one part of a long process was all keller's doing I'm told. Currently they field a good team of lobbyists that we sit down with every week and go over bills, talk about issues with bills and how we fight them off. They are also supporters of FFL-IL. They have tried to make amends for what happened. Contiued bellyaching about them only serves to have them question how hard should they participate, when many other manufacturers dont do much beyond contributing to nra or nssf I give them a secind chance as to date they have proved to be helpful

I'm only about an hour away, haven't had any issues with my Loaded 1911 but that would be convenient and cheaper than shipping it.
Kingcreek Posted February 19, 2019 at 02:54 PM Share Posted February 19, 2019 at 02:54 PM I live 30 miles from Geneseo. Years ago you could visit the shop and walk through with an escort. I got to visit with Rob Latham when he built my custom 1911 (and later spend some range time shooting it with him). Fun but those days are gone.Last year I had a problem with a rear sight on a different 1911 (range officer champion 9mm) and called their CS. While their service was fast and excellent, they insisted I send it to them and receive it return fedex

cybermgk Posted February 19, 2019 at 03:18 PM Share Posted February 19, 2019 at 03:18 PM I had an argument on Facebook the other day with an idiot who posted a comment that said "don't buy anything Springfield, new or used". So I politely asked him why not used? I get why you don't want to buy new, but what's your reasoning behind not buying used. He replied "because you're supporting the company giving them more money. I said in response, but they already got the money from the person who bought it new. The only thing you'd be doing by buying it used is giving money to the person who's selling it. So if the money isn't going to Springfield on a used gun, why wouldn't you buy it? I was then called a liberal. There's a portion of gun owning conservatives that are bigger mouth breathers than liberals. It amazes me sometimes at how people are unable to use reason. It's not hard lol. I truly hope that was a troll. If not [pounds head on desk)

It's why I bought a RO 1911 from them after it all. If I could afford one of their M1As.
