Kudos to Vice for treating this story with fairness, though the teacher's union person comes along to say some ridiculous things.

Saw this when it originally aired. Vice is typically anti gun, but they did give this a reasonably fair shake.

I do wonder how it would work in practice when the kids actually get shot at. Just like any group, it's only as strong as it's leader(s). If kids who top the social hierarchy fall early in a swarm, the swarm will turn into a scatter.

I had a bully in HS who had an entourage. When that bully lost his front teeth (  ) his entourage scattered. I think it's the same dynamic at play whether you're a villain or a good guy.

As the principal pointed out, the kids are trained as a last ditch effort, the first line of defense is the four anonymous teachers who are armed.  The kids are trained in hopes that they'll do something.  They are children and so there is the possibility that they won't have the discipline to stick to the plan, but adults tend to be the same in these situations and the in the same way, adults learn to apply themselves in the face of danger due to training.  Police and military both are known to say when they first met with armed resistance or a dangerous situation, they fell back on their training, their training kicked in.  I'm especially pleased that the teachers go through six months of training and the older students are given leadership positions, they've been doing the same thing the younger kids have been doing for years, and older kids lead the way, the younger ones are more likely to follow.  At the end of the day, I trust that this school's reputation (and I trust signs posted outside) will keep them from ever being a target.
