IGOLD 4/25/2018

I hope to see every one of you next week in Springfield at IGOLD, as we march to the capital and confront (or encourage) our legislators. This has been a very trying year for gun rights, both nationally and locally. We need to show up en-masse next Wednesday for this yearly event, and let them know we have noticed! We need to speak to the many, many fence sitters and convince them to stay strong. The haters of freedom are specifically focusing on Republicans in "soft" districts (such as many Chicago suburban districts), but there is also risk in many of the districts across the state. The anti's feel that they have the national mood "on their side" and are pushing to get through anything they can while people are concerned about guns. These knee-jerk reactions will stick with us for the next 20, 50 or even more years, as they never get redacted. The antis know darn well that they can pass absolute terrible authoritarian garbage right now, and it will harm law-abiding freedom-loving gun-owners forever.

We cannot let this happen! Ever gun owner (or supporter of freedom from government tyranny of any kind) needs to focus this year and fight hard!

I haven't seen as many posts about IGOLD this year as I would've expected to see. I hope to see all of you at IGOLD next week.

In addition to being necessary, it's a fun time. This is a chance to hear good nationally-recognized speakers, spend time with fellow 2a-entusiests, and join a march on the Illinois capital. Once there, you get the chance to speak with your representatives and senators, drop off cards letting them know who was there, and spend some extra time exploring our state's capital and grounds.

This event is family friendly. Kids, young and old, often enjoy both being part of the democratic process as well as viewing the unique architecture and landmarks. I will be bringing my daughter this year.

If anyone has questions, I'd be happy to chat. I'm not here in any official capacity, only as someone who's attended before. This will be my 10th IGOLD.

Never been to one. Concealed carry allowed?

..."I'm sure it's still posted. Every year since the law went into effect they've had the ISP signs on every door. Also, we go straight from the conference to the march (which is a permitted event and prohibited by statute.) The march ends at the capital, which is posted and statutorily prohibited. "...

The whole idea of IGOLD is to lobby your representatives and senators and the Governor. The Capitol is posted and since the March to the Capitol is permitted you can't carry.

An accidental bonus of the Senate's scheduling and fooling around delaying the recognition of the Governor's veto -

WHEN they adjourn the Senate on IGOLD Day, April 25, 2018, the 15 days to over ride the Governor's veto

of the Gun Dealer Licensing Act will have EXPIRED and the veto is SUSTAINED - in other words

the Gun Dealer Licensing Act will be DEAD DEAD DEAD. Tom Rooney's vote cannot hurt us anymore.

IF you are in the Senate Gallery when the Senate adjourns for the day, WAIT until the gavel has struck -

THEN the adjournment is completed

and

IIAC then a celebratory (brief) cheer or clapping (demonstration) cannot be "punished".

IF Don Harmon is in earshot - THAT ought to irritate him greatly.

Concealed carry is prohibited by statute (e.g. the fact that the march is a permitted event and that we go inside the state capital.) But don't hold it against the event. :) If we were in Texas, it'd be allowed.

Great to hear about the first-timers in the thread. If you've never been to one, this year is the one to attend! Never in the past few years have our rights been under such attack. You probably have to go back 15 years or more for a similar nationwide attack on gun rights.

I'm going. Considering riding down (from NW burbs) on my bike if the weather cooperates. Anyone else thinking about riding down?

It could be a nice ride if the weather cooperates. But have a backup plan (e.g. car) in case it doesn't.

I am going regardless. Catching a ride down with Scipio24 if don't take the bike. I'm an IGOLD and Springfield virgin so this should be interesting.

It looks like there will be a lot of us new folks there this year. I hope it happens.

Hopefully there will be enough old timers there to show us where the restrooms are located.

This is a few years old but worth reviewing for first time newbies.

Just consolidating information here:

There is another thread that informs that

AMTRAK has finished work at the NEW station in Joliet and now stops THERE,

the temporary station is no longer used.

The last few years the Joliet train station has been undergoing renovation, requiring passengers to use the temporary station.

Last week the new Gateway Center was opened. If your taking Amtrak to Springfield from Joliet you will board at the new station instead of the temp station.

See you on the 25th!
