Rep. Willis Declares Open Season on Sportsmen’s Groups.

As Representative Kathleen Willis continues her attacks on gun owners and gun dealers, she has now broadened it to attacking Sportsmen’s groups and their fundraising. HB-4338 bans any group in the state from raffling off any firearm that fits her very broad definition of “assault weapon”.

Under HB-4338, “No raffle, including, but not limited to, a raffle conducted by a law enforcement agency, statewide association that represents law enforcement officials, or government entity, may have an assault weapon as a prize.” Want to raffle off a Benelli turkey gun at your local Wild Turkey dinner – it’s illegal. Want to have your local gun club raffle off an AR-15 to benefit their junior shooting program – it’s illegal. Want to raffle off a Shotgun that holds more than 5 rounds at your Ducks Unlimited dinner – it’s illegal.

“Rep Willis has been on a tirade against law abiding gun dealers and has tried to run them out of business. Now she thinks it’s perfectly acceptable to attack sportsmen’s groups, gun clubs and their fundraising efforts” said Todd Vandermyde, Executive Director of Federal Firearms Licensees of Illinois (FFL-IL). “She appears to believe that it’s open season on sportsmen’s groups like Ducks Unlimited, Pheasants Forever and local gun clubs.”

HB-4338 definitions are so broad that many competitive handguns would be banned from raffles and creates a confusing set of definitions that places fundraisers as well as dealers in a legal minefield. “Our dealers love supporting the outdoor groups. We often handle the firearms transfers at these dinners or raffles. But we need clarity in the law not ambiguous definitions, and this looks like an attempt to just shutdown gun raffles and sportsmen’s groups fundraising.” said Dan Eldridge, President of FFL-IL.

HB-4338 has not been scheduled for a hearing just yet, but could come up in the coming weeks as the General Assembly is back in session.

When is her spot up for reelection? Man, there needs to be a concerted effort to get someone else in, instead of her.

Well representatives are elected every two years. So......

guys, what we are seeing is a whole sale attack on not only gun owners, but our culture, our hobbies, our heritage.

They are now making this a culture war. One where anything associated with guns is unacceptable. They want to shut off any fundraising because we are better at it then they are. If you choke off the dinners and raffles, less land, less participants and all that hunter stuff goes by the wayside and you loose a generation of these people and its over.

If you belong to a Pheasants or DU chapter, you need to have them get on the horn and light the phones up.

the second part of this is it just underscores how far they will go how low they will stoop. She needs to be exposed for the quack she is

The scariest part of this law is it could put into place definitions for assault weapon on a state level. If that framework was agreed upon and put in place it would make further steps restricting and up to banning "assault weapons" much easier.

That was the first thing I thought when I saw this hit.

Couldn't this be worked around by the clubs? Raffle off a gift certificate instead of a weapon. Heck, I bet most hunters would love the option of getting $500-1000 bucks to dpend in a sportsmen's shop. If they want a gun, buy one. If they want ammo or camo they can buy that instead. The shop would probably make out too since the winner is likely to spend his own money in conjunction with his winnings.

That said, Willis really needs a hobby. Idle hands and all.

I propose that to counter Willis, we go "quack quack quack" and so forth in her presence. Simple, direct, annoying.

Imagine her walking through the capitol surrounded by a (NOT loud - conversational level) mobile cloud of quacking? Freedom of speech.

Bout time we started annoying HER.

It is no coincidence.

The "mentally off" people who are filled with grandiose visions of structuring and running other people's lives go into politics. They have no knowledge of law, economics or finance, their only ability is the skill of persuading others to vote for them. What is amazing is that we have sane politicians with any sense of responsibility. They'd do much better in the private sector running their own business. Some of them have been in the private sector and have been impacted by the insanity, they saw that the state is going down the toilet and ran for election to try to stop this train wreck of a state before it plunges off the cliff.

You know, I don't even hunt anymore, and just out of principle I am going to join some sort of hunter's and sportsman's organization to spite this idiocy on its face.

Any suggestions from people on this board what would be an appropriate organization of this type for a Chicago Northsider to join that would actually be of some use to me?
