An email from the CCRKBA:

BELLEVUE, WA – The Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms lauded today’s 272-154 majority vote by the House of Representatives on passage of H.R. 822, the National Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act of 2011.

“We’re delighted at the outcome of this important legislation in the House,” said CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb, “especially since the floor debate brought out all of the tired old cliché arguments. Congressional anti-gunners pulled out all the stops, but their rhetoric could not derail this common sense measure.

“As so many of the bill’s proponents wisely pointed out during the debate,” he continued, “citizens do not leave their self-defense rights at a state border. Those who would argue otherwise evidently have no interest in public safety.

“What was remarkable,” Gottlieb observed, “is how many self-defense opponents suddenly discovered the cause of states’ rights as an excuse to oppose this legislation. This measure is not about state’s rights, it’s about individual rights.”

The vote found seven Republicans voting against the measure and 43 Democrats supporting it.

“How the bill fares when it reaches the Senate remains to be seen,” Gottlieb noted, “but this recorded House vote will give the nation’s firearms owners a chance to see how their Congressional representative feels about their rights under the Second Amendment, and about the safety of their families when they travel across state lines.

“House members can give all the lip service they want to the Second Amendment,” he concluded, “but it is votes like this that separate the superficial from the sincere.”

I am pleased that the House passed the reciprocity bill allowing for a concealed carry permit holder to carry in the rest of the country. All that is except Illinois. I do have a crow to pick with most of the antis that spoke of their opposition to this bill. Every one of the antis spoke of criminals being allowed to carry loaded concealed weapons down main street. This bill was not for the benefit of the criminals, it was intended to help the LAW ABIDING CITIZEN protect his self, family and property when ever he travels outside his home state. The majority of the supporters of the bill said that a persons right to self defense should not end at the state border. I wonder if any of the Illinois General Assembly heard this. Their interpretation is that an Illinois Citizen right to self defense ends at his front door. Kind of makes one person wonder how so many lawmakers can get so much screwed up just by expressing their thoughts on a subject matter that they know absolutely nothing about. No point in checking out the Supreme Court, the Constitution of the United States or the bill of rights. If a politician disagrees with anything, that is the way the law reads regardless of how the people feel. Representation? I don't think so, more like dictatorship by the select few.

I do have a concealed carry permit, I do not have a police record of any kind and I do not enjoy being referred to as a CRIMINAL.

Does this Bill now receive a different number in the senate?

Can a Senator add the amendment from the house which would include Illinois (the one that didn't make it out of committee)?

the number should stay the same, they can do what ever they want with the bill, they could gut it completly and make it about school zone speed limits if they wanted to, but no matter what they do, if they change it, it would then have to go back to the house for a re-vote. If it passes as is, it goes on to the President. If he veto's it then it's back through the system for a veto overide.

Correct me if I am wrong (and I'm sure you all will) but if this bill becomes law someone from Wiscowsin with a CCP will be allowed to carry concealed in my state while I won't. Is that correct? If that is true then this bill is a slap in the face to every gun owning citizen in Illinois.

That is incorrect. Nobody will be able to CCW in Illinois, except for LEO, etc. Everything in the socialist state of Illinois remains the same until we pass some sort of a CCW right.

Could that be correct? Luis Gutierrez voted AYE???? :frantics:

Yes. SHOCKING! That's Luis Gutierrez, a serious Chicago gun control supporter. He is recorded as voting Aye.

Simplest explanation is that either he, or someone recording votes, made a mistake.

Knowing Rep. Gutierrez as I do, the logical answer is the bill had nothing to do with legalizing undocumented immigrants so he just pushed his button without caring.

I think his term is coming to end. There's a Republican (Hector L Concepcion) who's running against him, who supports the 2nd amendment.

If this passes, I'm hoping someone does a comprehensive overview of where each state's permit will now allow one to carry. It would be nice also for it to include recommendations on which state's permit to get, for those of us who have not yet done this. I've heard that Utah and FL are the best.

If this law passes it won't matter which permit you get as they will all have the same reciprocity at that point.
