GATGUNS imposes 96 hour waiting period for purchases on Fri, Sat & Sun

GATGUNS is now closed on Mondays. GATGUNS does not count the 24 hours of Monday towards the running of the state mandated 72 hour waiting period. Therefore, if you purchase a firearm from them on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday, they make you wait 96 hours to pick up your firearm. When I noticed that the pickup date and time on my receipt for a firearm that I had purchased on a Sunday had me waiting 96 hours to pick it up, I thought that it was a mistake. I called GATGUNS and they said that it was not a mistake and that they did not count Mondays in the 72 hour waiting period because they were closed. I am not in any particular hurry to pick up my firearm and am sure glad that I didn't waste my time driving all the way out there after 72 hours to pick it up.

Yeah that is kinda strange. I wonder what the reason for this is ?

One thing I do like about GAT though is they are very on point about that kinda stuff. They do a good job of letting you know the exact time to come back and if you need to call first because the states being lame.

Agree'd...

The last firearm I bought from them, they made it a point to tell me the date...and 'exact time'...down to the minute...that I could pick it up.

We laughed..we cried..we xfered a firearm... :)

Omg, they arent following the law?

A right delayed is a right denied!

Where do they think they can get off extending out Freedumbs?

Gatguns F em wont get my business anymore

Maxons F em wont get my business anymore

Having to show your foid card just to get in.......

Having to wait more days/hours than the law actually states......

The outrage here should be loud and long.....of course unless you are saying its ok for one but not the other, kind of like the Left/Democrats!

The 96 hours had nothing to do with the time needed for a background check. Mine cleared in seconds and they told me so. They sad that the increase in the wait time is solely a function of GATGUNS not counting the day that they were going to be closed. I have been a loyal GATGUNS customer and will remain so, but this policy makes no sense.

I have a feeling they are under-staffed and just can't handle the load of all of the guns bought on Friday and Saturday being picked up on Tuesday; so they say Monday doesn't count giving their people a chance to "catch up" on Tuesday.

I agree with this assessment, a decision not unlike Mega Sports!

Only Gat and Max won’t be getting thrown under Da Bus......

On reflection, assuming that is their reason, trying to avoid having the staff being overwhelmed by gun pickups on Tuesday makes sense.

As far as the GAT, Maxons and MegaSports rivalry,

I live minutes from Maxons, but (before the lockdown) regularly shot at Maxons, GAT and MegaSports. I was willing to drive the longest distance to shoot at Megasports because I think that they have the best lit and safest lanes compared to Maxon and GAT. I have absolutely no problem with Megasports requiring a FOID to enter.

This thread has probably run it's course.

Gun stores here in NH are really tough.

Walk in, choose a gun, run 4473/NICS, take home your new toy ;-)

HahahahahahA! Oh the sweet smell of common sense and freedom.

And many states don't even require the NICS if you have a carry permit.

Last Fall i was visiting a friend in Bismarck North Dakota. We went into his favorite local gun store, and he saw a Sig 365 he liked. He filled out a 4473, gave the guy a check and we walked out the door. As he had a CCW, no NICS, no fuss, no muss, no bother. He could not believe me when I told him what we have to do here to buy a gun.

How many seconds did your NICS check take?

My lifetime average is about 10 seconds. I think. Might be less.

I have a relatively unique name and have a boringly clean background. I’ve only been delayed once - in Illinois of course.
