Giffords own report kills their own narrative

The lack of trust between law enforcement and the communities they serve is a major driver of gun violence in cities across the United States, a new report by the Giffords Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence warns.

In many American communities, acts of police brutality, over-enforcement targeting small infractions and high numbers of unsolved shootings and homicides have eroded trust, making residents less likely to place their trust in law enforcement and more likely to seek vigilante justice, the researchers note.

Everybody has largely missed the fact that if people cant count on help from the state and its agents, theyre going to take care of themselves, says David Kennedy, the director of the National Network for Safe Communities, a violence reduction research center, whose work is referenced throughout the report. Sometimes taking care of yourself looks like day-to-day gun violence.

This article is well worth the read.

I'm not certain it kills their narrative.

The article highlights included in your post (I didn't read the whole article) suggest they believe the police should be the ones doing the protecting, that only the police should have the guns, and if those two concepts were reality we wouldn't need to take care of ourselves.

This is more of the same wishing for a utopia that's totally disconnected from reality. The article shows they understand reality, but they aren't willing to give up the dream of the utopia so they will press ahead with forcing it on us despite reality and our need to take care of ourselves.

African Americans make up more than half of all homicide victims in America, according to the report. Black men comprise less than 7% of the US population, but 51% of gun homicide victims. -- And who are the majority of the perpetrators?

“Rather, if you can identify a small number who are at an elevated risk of shooting and being shot it opens up a number of intervention possibilities.” --- Like a gang database? A few of them have been cancelled, because of "civil rights" issues.

It looks like gifford is branching out into the social justice arena because she is failing at her original intent.

community distrust in police leaves unsolved crimes (no one will talk)

And any cop in these problem areas will contest to that along with the revolving door at the prosecutors office putting gun carrying thugs tight back on the streets with signature bonds within hours of being arrested and an eventual plead to some slap on the writst crime so the thug remains on the streets.

Michael Bloomberg and the rest of the anti-gun community really do not care a whit about crime in poor communities or anywhere else outside of their guarded enclaves. They are uncomfortable with the reality that the riff raff, which includes most of us regardless of our being tax paying, law abiding responsible citizens, owning firearms and possibly carrying them. These people see the police as protecting them against us, at least until they suffer some abuse at the hand of those very police. They cannot even contemplate the "horror" of having a gun in their home and the thought of us having guns is what gives them nightmares no matter how delusional that fear might be. Facts do not matter to these people, nor is it possible to have rational discussions on this issue with them. They need to be politically defeated, not reasoned with.

Quite correct on every point.

Perhaps we should write "Listen son, our Rights DO NOT end where your feelings begin!!" in magic marker on both arms. Think it would help?

Even if it "killed" their narrative, it wouldn't stop them with money to be made, taking away rights.

The lack of trust between law enforcement...

That there is an excuse for bad behavior of some in the inner cities.

"I ran because I was scared..." " I fought because I was scared..."

No, they ran because they were dirty, they fought because they did not want to go to jail.

Left is good at making excuses for those that make poor decisions.
