Should I apply for FOID renewal while waiting for CCL renewal

Recommended Posts

I would say to wait too, and see if you get your CCL beforehand. I'm in this same situation where my CCL renewal came up 4 months before my FOID renewal so I couldn't renew both at the same time. I waited the 90 days (with prints) for the CCL renewal, and it never processed. I went ahead and processed my FOID renewal at 30 days before it expired because I assumed the state didn't want to spend the extra money on processing me and sending me a CCL and a new FOID that would have only been valid for a month. Needless to say, I'm still waiting for both and they both show in the system as Submitted and Under Review.

I don't know if the state is ignoring processing any CCL's if the corresponding FOID is up for renewal within X number of days... I think my situation shows the state won't process your CCL renewal if the FOID expires within 4 months, Ranger's example will bump that timeframe out to 6 months if he doesn't get his CCL due to pending FOID expiration. At least anyone in the future here can read these situations and possibly see if they'll have possible lengthy renewal times too.

Carry on for free I say.... It'll be 5 months free CCL carrying for me in a few days.

So this is my story I applied for ccl renewal on March 15 2019 been waiting, since foid expires on September 1 I applied on July 5 to renew it, it became active today. I tried numerous times to contact the state police on how long It is taking. Finally talked to someone today and she advised me that the ccl process completely stopped when I applied for my foid card renewal, lesson learned. She said expect another 45 days.

I logged in today. It shows my CCL went active July 25th (applied in April).

After seeing that it was now active (even though haven't received yet), I went ahead and applied for FOID renewal.

Had a disruption and website timed out as uploading picture. Went back in and it had purged years resided at previous locations. Did best guess on only prior one needed (been at current location almost 10 years), deleted previous ones, and completed application. Pretty doubtful it will match previous answer exactly. Hope that doesn't mess things up.

Also, noted the link / notice to the FOID card overcharge class action lawsuit on the ISP site too...
