They've learned from the past

After every significant shooting incident the Democrat Party jumps on to the gun control issue, usually with no success. Their last big win was the AWB in 1994 and when that expired in 2004 they sort of just whimpered in their defeat. I thought we were in for some real trouble after Newtown, and then again after Orlando. But this time the Dems seemed to have learned from their past mistakes. They have gotten gullible, easily suggestible teenagers to be their front men. Whereas politicians were willing to call out politicians on the Left for their irrational demands in the past, they will be hesitant to do the same for "innocent kids". It appears that they already have President Trump running a bit scared, and without anything in return it appears he has already given in to a few demands with more to come. I think this time it is the real deal and we had better be ready for some major setbacks in gun rights.

In addition to everything else, the Left is, or will be shortly, emboldened by the latest move by the Supreme Court which has not received that much attention in the media yet. By refusing to take on the case against the 10 day waiting period for a gun purchase in California, it appears that SCOTUS is sending a signal, intended or not, that it is ready to back step a bit on gun rights. Between this and the firing up of high school kids across the country, the Dems think they have a real winner and they may be right.

In addition to the banning of "bump stocks", which now seems to be a done deal, I expect we will see support on both sides of the aisle for so-called "universal background checks". Get ready for a Federal requirement that all gun sales or transfers, including when grandpa gives grandson his old side by side 12 gauge. Not only will this cause any gun transfer or sale to become more expensive as it will have to pass through an FFL, but for the first time will create, in effect, a registration type of data base which will be ripe for abuse by the next Democrat administration. I also think we will see some type of AWB, although when legislators try to define what they are banning it might end up being no big deal or something that really changes little. Or it might end up with a real ban on the sale of many if not most semi auto rifles and/or any with large capacity magazines. I don't think its out of the realm of possibility that currently owned guns will suddenly become illegal, as was done in Australia.

In addition to what those of us who value our 2nd Amendment rights should always be doing, i.e., communicating with legislators and the White House, now is the time for every gun owner who has even a smidgen of concern for their gun rights to join the NRA if they are not already a member, as well as the GOA. And if any on this forum know of any gun owner who is not a member of these organizations, we should be pressing them to join now. The NRA is under real attack, and now is the time for them to get a show of support from concerned gun owners, and anyone else who values our Constitutional rights.
