REAL ID and full middle name.

So I renewed my DL and got the REAL ID. The ID has my full middle name, previously I’ve only used my midddle initial.

Now that the DL name doesn’t match the name on my FOID and CCL do I have to get a name change on them because one has a full middle name and two have a middle initial?

Thanks

I got my DL upgraded to a Real ID a few months back.

I provided my passport as an ID which has my full middle name. My DL, FOID and CCL all have just a middle initial.

They had to update my DL with my full middle name so it matches by passport but my FOID and CCL still just show my middle initial.

i’ve check the ISP website several times since and my FOID and CCL still appear as valid

Bottom line, don’t worry about it.

As an aside, if you intend to update to a Real ID go early in the day. Not every clerk works on the Real ID and when they reach a certain point they stop accepting upgrades for that day.

Have you bought anything from an FFL since you upgraded?

A friend of mine (a FFL), who I called in the mean time, said he sees differences in the DL and foid/ccl middle names/ initials all the time. He told me itâs nothing to worry about.

Unless otherwise told, I will not pay to have my FOID and CCL changed.

I strongly suggest not submitting a name change for your FOID or CCL. Your name has not changed and the ISP should already have your middle name, it's just not on your card.

ISP has not released a statement about the REAL ID driver's licenses showing the full middle name. So it's status quo until they do. It would be a nightmare on top of the already long wait times for FOID and CCLs renewals if everyone started requesting name changes - and we shouldn't have to pay the $80 to do it either.

They can barley keep up with renewals every 10 years, Imagine them having to re-issue a vast majority of FOID cards...it would be, for lack of a better term, hellacious.

Hi Dog1,

I know that already. My point is if TSA and others say a passport will substitute for the new id, why won't the state just let you upgrade by showing the passport instead of insisting on all the additional documents.

I should able to just go to the DMV with my passport and walk out with new paper.

Bureaucrats...

No idea why state does anything but the passport does not prove residency. There is no requirement to update address on passport. State mails real Id to verified address. Passport also does not provide ssn. Passport meets signature and dob requirements.

How do you prove what your ss number is if you don't have a ss card? I haven't had one for ages but I know my number.

Here is a link to acceptable forms of ID

interestingly enough your FOID OR FCCL are not acceptable forms of ID.

Current DL satisfies A,B,C and 2 docs satisfies D is what I am reading. Utility bill and one other for D ?

You need 2 of the ones marked with an asterisk to satisfy residency.

But does that mean 2 different ones, or can it be two of the same category, i.e. 1 electric, and 1 gas bill?
