Sen. Manar resigning

Chief Illiniwek

Recommended Posts

Received an email from Sen. Manar a short time ago. He's resigning as our senator (48th District) on the 17th of this month. No real reason given other than his kids are now teenagers and, after over 22 years in public office (up to and including his time in the senate), it's time for someone else to take up the call.

It makes me wonder if he can't support the Governor's agenda and is stepping down rather than buck the party.

Sounds like he is stepping down to become Jelly Belly’s senior advisor.

CHICAGO- State Sen. Andy Manar (D- Bunker Hill) has been tapped as a senior advisor to Gov. JB Pritzker. Manar announced today that he will resign from the Illinois Senate effective January 17, 2021.

That may be a good thing. He hasn't been bad on 2A issues, better than a lot actually, and he's an avid hunter.

Macoupin County (which includes Bunker Hill) went for Trump by 57 points last November. So, if J.B. gets a policy advisor that's fairly good on the 2A, and the 48th District picks up a Republican (not saying a RINO) senator....it's a win win.

I wish him the best in his new position.

Regarding Senator Manar's replacement:

"Manar represents the 48th State Senate District, which includes Christian, Macon, Macoupin, Madison, Montgomery and Sangamon counties. The Democratic party chairs of those counties will choose a replacement to serve until the 2022 election."

They always, always announce this after the election. Sensible states would have a special election ASAP, but this is Illinois.
