Chief Illiniwek Posted January 4, 2021 at 08:40 PM Share Posted January 4, 2021 at 08:40 PM Received an email from Sen. Manar a short time ago. He's resigning as our senator (48th District) on the 17th of this month. No real reason given other than his kids are now teenagers and, after over 22 years in public office (up to and including his time in the senate), it's time for someone else to take up the call. It makes me wonder if he can't support the Governor's agenda and is stepping down rather than buck the party.
Lou Posted January 4, 2021 at 08:47 PM Share Posted January 4, 2021 at 08:47 PM Sounds like he is stepping down to become Jelly Belly’s senior advisor. CHICAGO- State Sen. Andy Manar (D- Bunker Hill) has been tapped as a senior advisor to Gov. JB Pritzker. Manar announced today that he will resign from the Illinois Senate effective January 17, 2021. jpearson Posted January 4, 2021 at 08:47 PM Share Posted January 4, 2021 at 08:47 PM He is taking a job as a Senior policy advisor for the Governor. So I would say a disagreement with the Governor or other Dems is not the reason.
Chief Illiniwek Posted January 4, 2021 at 08:50 PM Author Share Posted January 4, 2021 at 08:50 PM Ahhh. I hadn't seen the advisor's deal. Same old, same old, I guess.
mauserme Posted January 4, 2021 at 11:29 PM Share Posted January 4, 2021 at 11:29 PM That may be a good thing. He hasn't been bad on 2A issues, better than a lot actually, and he's an avid hunter.

So, if J.B. gets a policy advisor that's fairly good on the 2A, and the 48th District picks up a Republican (not saying a RINO) senator....it's a win win. I wish him the best in his new position. Sensible states would have a special election ASAP, but this is Illinois.
