I obtained the information below via Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the Illinois State Police. To review last month's thread on this topic, please visit this link.

As of the end of the day on June 30, 2016, there were 186,856 active FCCLs (186,828 resident + 28 nonresident) and 2,025,754 active FOID cards.

The first table below captures the current cumulative totals, as of end of day June 30, 2016, for Illinois Concealed Carry Licenses (CCLs) issued to nonresidents and residents since the program began. Note that these totals represent the total number ISSUED, and are not adjusted for those that have since been revoked or cancelled. This table also includes totals for CCLs that have been denied, revoked, or currently awaiting action from the Concealed Carry Licensing Review Board (CCLRB). The paragraph below the table shows the number of CCLs and FOID cards currently active, accounting for those that have since been inactivated.

The second table provides a trend analysis based on prior FOIA requests on CCL totals since June 2015. Earlier trend data is available via prior threads (for example, see Mar 1, 2016 report here).

Some additional observations:

* The backlog of CCLs pending CCLRB review has risen by 94 and has now reached 2,293.

* 4,625 FCCL applications were submitted in the last month.

* The total number of active FCCL licensees rose by 8,093 in June.

* The number of active FOID holders rose by 8,825 in June.

If these numbers continue to trend this way - we could hit the 200,000 CCLs by the end of the year. I think we are well on our way to the 400,000 predicted and maybe surpassing that. It usually takes about 5 years for the number of license holders to hit their average.

With 210,000 applicants I would hope so. "To infinity and beyond." BTW I wasn't the first to say that. :)

Thanks again for the update KWC.

For future requests, would it be possible to find out how many new apps are referred to the CCLRB, instead of just knowing the total awaiting review?

So we know the total grew by 94.... but were there 100 new objections, and the board knocked 10 off of their backlog? Were there 95 new objections, and board processed one? Basically, some way of knowing how many applications the board is processing each month for their $37K part time salary.......

This continues to astound me. Completely unacceptable. Isn't it time they have a dedicated review board handling this backlog every single day till the backlog is cleared? With what we pay for our CCL, this garbage shouldn't be tolerated. I know there isn't a whole lot we can do and this is really just a rant... but for crying out loud... enough already.

I'll give this some thought, but I truly am hesitant to mix that up with this monthly FOIR. Every little data field seems to extend the timeline. It took ISP 18 days to respond to this FOIR. My CCLRB-focused FOIR took 40 days (http://illinoiscarry.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=61601&hl=).
