TomKoz Posted January 2, 2013 at 04:42 AM Share Posted January 2, 2013 at 04:42 AM Considering a red dot laser (Crimson Trace) for one of my handguns. Just want to make sure they are legal to have / use here in Illinois.
vess1 Posted January 2, 2013 at 04:47 AM Share Posted January 2, 2013 at 04:47 AM I hope so. I have two pictured in my avatar. Kimber pro covert II and a streamlight combo on the Glock. (They are. Unless Chicago has an ordinance or tax for having one!) Sent from my Motorola Electrify using Tapatalk
vezpa Posted January 2, 2013 at 04:51 AM Share Posted January 2, 2013 at 04:51 AM They are illegal in Chicago and Cook county. I mentioned them in our post for what we would like to see in the new CCW bill. Hopefully Todd was listening and will get this in the bill. There is no downside to the use of a laser pointer. It is actually a device that promotes safety by allowing you to hit your target, helping to eliminate stray bullets. It can also be used to keep a shooting from even happening, by simply turning the laser on someone attacking you it might get them to stop and re-think their actions. TomKoz Posted January 2, 2013 at 04:57 AM Author Share Posted January 2, 2013 at 04:57 AM Vezpa, is it illegal to "have" one in Crook County or illegal to "use" in Crook County, or both? What if you have it on your hand gun but don't use it at a range in Crook County?
vess1 Posted January 2, 2013 at 05:01 AM Share Posted January 2, 2013 at 05:01 AM Wow. I was joking. But of course theyre illegal in Cook Co. God only knows why. Sent from my Motorola Electrify using Tapatalk
vezpa Posted January 2, 2013 at 05:34 AM Share Posted January 2, 2013 at 05:34 AM They are illegal to own and posess. How far they are willing to go to fight it is anyone's guess. Like I said, I hope Todd has written something into our new CCW bill to allow us to trump home rule and use this valuable and potentially life savimg tool. Yas Posted January 2, 2013 at 03:15 PM Share Posted January 2, 2013 at 03:15 PM C®ook County legislators seem to prefer random spray and pray, rather that aimed shots for its people.
GWBH Posted January 2, 2013 at 03:20 PM Share Posted January 2, 2013 at 03:20 PM Wow. I was joking. But of course theyre illegal in Cook Co. God only knows why. Sent from my Motorola Electrify using Tapatalk 2 They are illegal in Crook Co because they turn any firearm into the "most powerful gun in the world"... I have Crimson Trace grips on all my handguns - and I ain't tak'n 'em off!
moon Posted January 2, 2013 at 05:05 PM Share Posted January 2, 2013 at 05:05 PM I don't know why on earth it's illegal...it would improve accuracy and reduce misses. I'd put it on...and don't go waving it around to people. I do not ever remember a "sting" operation at a range to check peoples lasers. I think you would be ok...BUT I"M NOT A LAWYER!! You might have a bigger problem if you live in Chicago and must present the gun in person for registration.
