dariusz12 Posted June 16, 2020 at 04:58 AM Share Posted June 16, 2020 at 04:58 AM I applied for my ccl back in October of 2019. I had a whole issue with my foid card that my local representative chief of staff helped me with to acquire. I had submitted documents for some legal issues and confusion with the state police. So I went forward with my application for ccl thinking that everything would be ok. A little bit before four months I called a contact at the isp to find out about my status and he said it's all clear and he would push it through. That same day I checked my online portal and went to under board review. I called him back the next day to find out that Cook county objected to my ccl. It has been more than 8 months !!! I have received no info on the objection only information that I was objected to and that they need more time. I have received the extension letter multiple times now. I asked my representative chief of staff to help once again and we have tried getting ahold of the board for months now. This includes calling Philip Ackerman, the board director. The objection was past the thirty day time frame first of all and second all from my understanding the objection can only toll the time designated of 120 days. I'm astonished the director refuses to answer calls from myself and a chief of staff for a rep. The chief of staff recommends I have an attorney send a letter to the department and the board. Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Craigcelia Posted June 16, 2020 at 05:05 AM Share Posted June 16, 2020 at 05:05 AM I would probably take his advice. Hire an attorney to just send the letter, see if that shakes things up. Ridiculous. Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk
Cordell34 Posted June 16, 2020 at 11:05 AM Share Posted June 16, 2020 at 11:05 AM It took about 15 months for my Objection to be overruled by the Review board. I’m sorry to be the bearer of bad news but with Corona shutting things down I’m assuming you’ll be waiting even longer. Yes It is frustrating, but at this point you can only take comfort in knowing that a very large percentage of the Objection are overruled!! In the meanwhile make sure to have a rebuttal letter written and ready to go with any and all supporting documents to support your argument. The Facts of case circumstances, dates, official police reports, and the final Court rulings. These are all things that you need to have in hand once the Board asks to hear your position regarding the objection. There is a short window to reply before you would have to request an extension, so being prepared as soon as they send the request is the ideal way to go. Good luck to you. dariusz12 Posted June 16, 2020 at 12:05 PM Author Share Posted June 16, 2020 at 12:05 PM Unfortunately I have no idea what they objected to they gave no information on the reasoning. The contact at the isp was the one who told me it was cool county and that is all. Furthermore the biggest issue is the legality of this all. In the statute it says they have thirty days to object. It was well over thirty days when my objection was entered since the contact said all clear and he would push it through. Plus from my understanding the way that the statute is worded, the isp has to respond to objections within the 120 days. They can ask for extensions after the time. The state and the objecting office did not follow the guidelines in the statute it's mind boggling.
Molly B. Posted June 16, 2020 at 01:45 PM Share Posted June 16, 2020 at 01:45 PM I have heard from a good number of people in the same position as you - no idea who objected or why - receiving multiple letters requesting an additional 30 days. A huge problem is that the CCL Review Board has had several vacancies on the board for many months and I believe there are still two spots that have not been filled. It's possible the board might not even be reviewing cases until the board is fully staffed - that is my major worry at this time.
mkhalil61 Posted June 16, 2020 at 02:12 PM Share Posted June 16, 2020 at 02:12 PM The typical case of being "darted" many of us went through the same darn thing- waiting almost 2 years before hearing from the board. Waiting for someone to file a suit against this process for being morally and legally unconstitutional.

dariusz12 Posted June 16, 2020 at 11:01 PM Author Share Posted June 16, 2020 at 11:01 PM I am aware that there was vacancies and what not and that there is still some vacancies as we speak. The rep said 5/7 should still allow for the board to meet. Even if there is not a full board, the state should not in anyway have the power to keep extending as they please it's unfair and unjust. If the board doesn't function as it should then it is a problem. The board is a barrier to our right and it's fundamentally flawed. Especially when the director of the board ignores all calls. I'm sick of dealing with dead ends with the state. I hope one day Illinois will fix it's problems but I don't see the light at the end of tunnel.
