On 5/25/2017, Superintendent Eddie Johnson predicted a 50% reduction is Chicago violence within 3 years of SB1722 becoming law.  The bill was signed into law on 6/23/2017. The clock is now ticking.

Today is the first day dedicated entirely to the 101st General Assembly.  Though new and returning legislators have been sworn into office, Governor Rauner will remain in the Executive Branch until 1/14/2019.

Several bills of interest have already been filed:

We'll continue to monitor new legislation as it's filed, and will ask for volunteers to help with this in the coming days.

Little or no floor action is expected today.

The House is scheduled for 10:00 AM today;  the Senate for 9:30 AM.

There will be nothing of note on either calendar, and there are no committee hearings scheduled at this time.

Next Days Scheduled

House: 1/29/2019
Senate: 1/29/2019

Dang do these guys work much or what?

Looks like we still have some friends on our side!

HB0274 is a big one, we need this law to stop places like Chicago and Northbrook from violating the spirit of our carry law.

Sadly, shell bills are already being introduced as well i.e. lets replace "the" with "the". I understand it procedurally, strategically and tactically, but...

Yeah that is the weird thing with IL Politics; they can transform shell bills into basically anything at any time

I'm thinking we need to reach out to Stava Murray and talk to her about how the shell bills circumvent proper procedure from being followed. She might be a lefty, but I believe she believes in good and fair government.

If their adjourned until 01/29, will that hold up the Gun Licensing Bill?

I'm past trying to predict what they're doing with that bill. The longer this goes the more likely they'll send it to Governor Pritzger. I still don't see how that's legal or logical, but this is Illinois.

From what I recall of prior bills, they do not need to be in session to send bill to governor.
