borgranta Posted October 3, 2013 at 03:19 AM Share Posted October 3, 2013 at 03:19 AM Taurus design flaw their TSS (Taurus Security System) lock can be picked in less than 1 minute. I have long suspected that it could be picked by the right sized tool but will not elaborate on the tool that I used on mine except to say a determined criminal that steals one that is locked can simply unlock it by simply picking it with the right sized tool. Anyone that is relying on the lock to prevent their kid(s) from using it or to prevent another prohibited person from using are risking a lot since it was first lock I have ever picked and it was too easy. John Wisch Posted October 3, 2013 at 11:37 AM Share Posted October 3, 2013 at 11:37 AM Welcome to reality... You're no longer a Liberal if you recognize the truth. Here is another truth. The regular trigger locks, guess what. They are incredibly easy to get off too. Keyed locks in general are there to keep only the honest people from getting into them. The guy that has no issue with breaking into your house, will have no problem with stealing your firearm. Then he will have next to no problem getting the trigger lock off. Criminals don't obey laws and they don't stay out of locked areas.
mauserme Posted October 3, 2013 at 12:32 PM Share Posted October 3, 2013 at 12:32 PM I've always thought of that more as a child safety device. As far as I know, the "keys" are all the same.

mauserme Posted October 3, 2013 at 12:58 PM Share Posted October 3, 2013 at 12:58 PM No doubt. Children are pretty resourceful when it comes to doing things adults didn't expect.
spu69 Posted October 3, 2013 at 01:05 PM Share Posted October 3, 2013 at 01:05 PM all you need it a torx bit or allen bit the right size with a hole in the bottom. I suspect it is more of an affirmative safety than a lock.

kster Posted October 3, 2013 at 04:36 PM Share Posted October 3, 2013 at 04:36 PM if you haven't watched this already. Defcon (it's a hacker convention) presentation on "locks" and "safes"

It's not going to stop a dedicated theif. Exactly. It's a block in the way, but anyone that is really set on bypassing it can do it, just like pretty much any security measure. Capt_Destro Posted October 3, 2013 at 06:07 PM Share Posted October 3, 2013 at 06:07 PM About the Defcon video, I dropped Sentry Fire Safe from not even 3 feet on a wood floor and it cracked open. Not a wise choice for a carry gun safe..

I'm not greatly concerned. I have a Taurus revolver, with the lock in the hammer. I locked it once. "Oh, that's how it works." Then unlocked it and it's been in the down position ever since. I don't think any of the build in gun locks are considered as absolute secuity.
