Some of you may have heard of the grass roots organization illinois carry. This organization was formed in 2004 and has been working hard to ensure that the citizens of Illinois can enjoy all of the freedoms under the 2nd amendment.
Member Scott Bowyer of Hume, has been actively working with illinois carry since Feb of '08. "We are a grass roots organization of everyday people dedicated to restoring and advancing the right to carry in Illinois" said Bowyer. The 2nd amendment of the constitution under the bill of rights states that we as US citizens have the right to keep and bear arms. Currently 48 states have some kind of gun carrying law that allows citizens to carry a gun legally. Wisconsin has an open carry policy. Illinois is the only state to still totally outlaw a gun carry law by non-law enforcement officials. This groups objective is to see that Illinois gets on board with the other states and passes some kind of law that will ensure our full rights under the 2nd amendment.
A series of about ten town hall meetings have been held by Illinois carry all over the state. The next town hall meeting will be held Monday July 12 at 7:00 pm at Hawthorne Suites in Champaign.
Bowyer says that there are two main purposes for these meetings. The first is to invite anyone interested to come and show thier support for the issue and send a message to Illinios law makers the the people of Illinois demand thier rights be restored. The second objevtive is to answer any questions or address concerns voiced by the public. This upcoming town hall is geared toward Edgar, Douglas, Vermillion and Champaign county and the sheriffs of all 4 counties will be in attendance.
"We have gained tremendous support over the last couple of years" Bowyer said. The Illinois Sheriffs Association and the Illinois Farm Bureau have both passed a resolution supporting the passage of conceal carry.
Bowyer said often they are asked why the need to carry a gun. He siad first for the protection of yourself and your loved ones. He also said, "To carry firearms or to bear arms is a natural, individual, fundamental right that was re-affirmed in the 2nd amendment of the U.S. constitution and upheld by the U.S. supreme court."
Whether you agree or not about the right to carry a gun, Bowyer stresses that everyone needs to remember that the constitution is so very important and we need to get back to the principles set forth in those documents.
Illinois carry monitors each and every peice of legislation that is introduced in Springfield and studies it to see if any part of it refers the the 2nd amendment. It is groups such as Illinois Carry along with others in Illinois that have been able to successfully stop every anti-2nd amendment bill introduced in the last three years.
One may not think their voice is heard in Springfield, but when put with thousands of other voices like yours, it can certainly make a difference and that is what this group is proving. "It takes everyone being actively engaged", said Bowyer.

Now two flags fly above my land that really sum up how I feel. One is the colors that fly high and proud the red, the white, the blue. The other ones got a rattle snake with a simple statement made, don't tread on me, is what it says and I'll take that to my grave

When the 2006 losses first happened, I heard a lot of GOPers say, "Good! A couple of terms of Democrats in power, and they'll overreach! Then we can pick up the pieces." I thought that's stupid; it's like burning down the house so you can remodel with the insurance money. Well, willy-nilly, the structure's definitely ablaze, a 5-alarm barnburner. Those GOPers who wanted total destruction have almost got what they want. I for one just hope we still have something to repair and rebuild once the flames are out. Six years of democratic centralism is an ugly thing to contemplate.

The Roman Empire fell due to a large, corrupt government, overspending, an overextended military, insecure borders, and the illegal immigration of Goths, barbarians (anyone who was not educated), and religious fanatics. Sound familiar?
