67vtx1800 Posted January 25, 2020 at 01:31 AM Share Posted January 25, 2020 at 01:31 AM It doesn’t appear that the current system discriminates against corrections officers retired or otherwise. Take the class, shoot to qualify, pay the money and wait in line like the rest of us. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Milesvdustin Posted January 25, 2020 at 03:26 AM Share Posted January 25, 2020 at 03:26 AM Illinois state corrections gets hosed by this state. As a federal corrections officer, I'm covered under leosa which the state guys should also be, but aren't. I have my IL ccw but I am not renewing it when it comes due, not giving this state any extra money.

Sent from my iPhone using TapatalkThis bill has to do with Corrections Officers being qualified under LEOSA HR218 and not just being able to getting their Illinois Concealed Carry. This has been ongoing for awhile especially with Cook County where the jail guards felt they should be qualified as LEO's and have the same privileges as active and retired officers but have been denied. I have to side with them because of who they deal with and a great possibility of encountering someone they had to deal with inside the jails. Same with officers that work in the State Prison system. LEOSA is much different than having a Illinois Concealed Carry permit. It doesnt have the limitations that the Illinois CCL has as far as the patchwork of other states where some will allow you to carry but many others will not.
