Range that allows you to unholster?

I've done a few holster training classes and have done plenty of dry firing drills and home defense drills at my house. But....I want to be able to practice my draws and live drills without having to pay $100+ to have an instructor show me things I already drilled and have covered in previous classes.

I know Illinois probably makes this unlikely but does anyone know of a range or public land (that can legally be used) that lets you practice your unholstering/rehostering drills?

I looked in the Training section but all I see are forums to classes. Thanks guys!

Well worth indeed! Tri county in Milledgeville is a little over an hour away for me, but it is a great facility with lots of pistol range options. They also hold 3 gun competitions if you want to get into some more excitement.

I only wish they had more than 200 yards for rifle.

I think there was talk about a 300 yard at one time. They just bought up more property around there so who knows.

... I wonder do other states with no laws like chicago & crook county have to deal with the range situation we have in Illinois.

"No drawing from a holster" isn't a legal requirement. Ranges just don't want you putting bullets in the floor, the ceiling, other customers, etc. (You can put as many as you want into yourself, since all the ranges I know have waivers for that....)

You guys are awesome! Sorry I recently joined earlier this month although I've been following for more than a few months already and didn't realize I didn't get a notification when someone posts a response to the post. I'll definitely check them out. I'm located in Elgin, IL (Kane County fortunately) and am willing to drive an hour and a half for a decent gun club that allows me to train for that moment that I hope never comes.

My girlfriend also lives in Aurora so if I were to get in (after waiting), it would give me an excuse to 'visit her' more frequently.

Saint Charles Sportsman Club is just 30 minutes from Elgin. Maybe closer depending on where in Elgin.

Membership is open for trap, five stand, and sporting clays. No sponsor required.

Access to the rifle, pistol, and archery ranges requires a full membership and sponsor.

Holster draw is only permitted during special events such as 3Gun or pistol challenges. It is not permitted on a regular basis.

I know. I wasn’t referring to the drawing, more so how all the outdoor ranges are well away from Chicago and the indoor ones near it are few and far between

Check out TriggerFarm Firearms Training and Range, we offer a Basic Defensive Pistol that's is 3 hours and tailored as a follow up to the Concealed Carry.

+1 on Trigger Farms. We go pretty much every month. $50.00 for 3 hours of instruction and around 300 rounds fired - all from the holster. The first hour or so is strictly holster work, shooting and reloads. Double taps, multiples, point and shoot from 3-5 & 7 yards. The rest of the class is 'shoot, move & reload', positional shooting (nine hole) and the last 40 minutes or so is running a steel plate course - either in competition with another shooter or at your own pace to practice. Great fun and only the cost of a couple of hours at an indoor range where all you do is shoot at paper - one slow shot at a time :)

South Elgin is opening a range June 11. You can draw from the holster if you get approved. Check out Fox Valley Gun Range. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

It looks like you don't just have to be approved. Looks like you have to take a holster draw class. Ugh. I hate suffering because of untrained or irresponsible shooters.

Trigger Farms sounds like fun. I wonder if their basic handgun $50/400rds is off limits to people who didn't get their CCL there , with them. I'm gonna give them a call , might have a few people willing to do the 70mile hike.

No it's not a prerequisite that you take their class. Their defensive pistol class is awesome. You will enjoy it.
