Midland bank now posted

A local bank here in Rockford (Alpine Bank) was bought by Midland Bank a couple of years ago, and I still do some banking there. One of the things that I was pleased with was that like the other bank in town that I deal with (PNC), Midland was not posted. But as of this past week that had changed. I had reason to enter the branch lobby near me, and almost did not notice for the first time the standard "No Guns" sign on the glass door. I had recently paid for another year's rent on a safe deposit box, but my plan now is to finish that paid for year and then move my stuff to another bank that is 2nd Amendment friendly.

Is it a legally compliant sign? If not I treat them just like the no sunglasses or hats signs, I ignore them. ^ this ***

The sign is the state compliant sign as far as I could tell. This bank does not get any of my money, only my safe deposit box. And now that I have paid for the upcoming year I gain nothing by ending my association with them. Whether or not I obey their sign is a decision I will make when I need to.

I would have thought that as time has passed, and the businesses and individuals that were fearful that legal concealed carry would bring the "wild west" to Illinois, would have found that none of what they feared had come to pass. The willingness to antagonize a sector of their market, i.e., the gun owners that carry concealed, would be seen as no longer necessary. But for the most part, the businesses that posted immediately after the law went into effect in Jan 2014 seem to still be posted, and those that did not post immediately seem to have stayed with that decision. This just reinforces what an emotion based decision this is; fully impervious to facts and reality.

Can't you get a refund for the rest of the year?

Go for a refund, as they changed the terms after you signed up by placing the signs.

My Wife worked for Alpine for several years. She went through the transition and hated the new Bank. The last straw was her friend shooting a bank robber. Helped her make up her mind to quit. We now bank elsewhere.

Yikes did the friend work there? If so, was he/she reprimanded?

I have a small account there that I shared with my late mother, I will close that on Monday. I never got good service since Belvidere Bank sold out, Alpine was OK for us but Midland is awful.

He is a security guard and retired Sheriff's deputy. You might remember the story in Rockford. My Wife and him belong to the same dog training club.
