IL FOID Bull Shucks

I hate the FOID.

I quit carrying my FOID when I got my CCL because I don't like all that crap in my wallet. AND the CCL should eliminate the need for a FOID anyway. (Of course, I'll further argue that the FOID is useless and should be discontinued regardless.)

So today I placed an Order with Brownell's and it got put on hold until I send them my FOID and IL DL. I sent IL driver license and my CCL BUT THAT"S NOT GOOD ENOUGH. They still need my actual FOID to continue my order.

The slogan on the signs when you enter the state should say,

"Welcome to Illinois, If we can make anything more complicated, more expensive, or more inconvenient- We Will!

What else would you expect ? This is a state that's full of political lefties that want to punish gun owners as much as they can. Their end game is not only to make laws that hassle the law abiding more, its to eradicate our entire way of life. Its not gonna get any better in the foreseeable future either you can trust in that. This is the calm before the anti gun storm that's coming with Gov Blimpie.

Using your IL CCL as a FOID card is only really accepted within the state of IL...... And even then only when a store/company will accept it as valid. There's plenty of retailers in this state that don't bother to read laws and still want to see only a FOID card with qualifying purchases. Online is always FOID and DL and that's probably never gonna change regardless of what the law is.

The combination of FOID/CCL was a good idea in theory. In practice you still need to have your FOID card on you at all times just in case.

I bought a new Glock 43 over the counter with only my CCL and no FOID. I think I had to present my DL also.

Yes, I have as well. Unfortunately that's not uniformly accepted the way it should be, which can lead to frustration with some people. people like the OP. I have never had a problem at a dedicated gun shop. They seem to be the best about it because they know the laws. Walmart hassled me about it.

Correction:

"People from sh*thole countries and union stooges voted in the politicians responsible for this mess."

Focus the blame in the right place.

shame people just don't buy the companies they are attempting to do business with

that way they wont have to follow that business's policies at all

just show them what YOU want and be damned if you'll show them anything else

show them that YOU mean business by NOT buying anything from them

maybe even get a lawyer to start a class action lawsuit

how dare ANY company in a free country try to ask for ANY id's or paper work before selling products to its citizens

next time some one asks for a copy of your FOID, send them a copy of your phone bill, that's acceptable ID....right?

In an ideal world, I'd like to see the FOID eliminated completely. I don't see any tangible benefit since there are states with no such system which have lower gun crime rates than we do. It's designed to make gun ownership a hassle...and to generate revenue. It's a minimal hassle, but a hassle nonetheless.

I don't know why the FOID couldn't be combined with a CCL. In other words, if you just want a FOID, great. If you have a FOID and want a CCL, I don't know why the CCL couldn't just say "Illinois Concealed Carry and Firearms Owner Identification" across the top.

Like others have said, I do like to conceal the fact that I have a CCL. That's true even when I go to a gun shop. So, as long as a anything other than a driver's license is needed for a purchase, I'm okay with having separate cards.

Illinois is not going to change. As a whole, the legislature does not care what we think. It does not care what our concerns are. Even among those who do support our POV, I think that support is pretty tepid. So, if I can't deal with the BS, I suppose I have the option to move to another state.

The FOID card is an unconstitutional mess imposed on us by a racist majority and Chicago politicians.

That said, it's arguably worked out to act as a hedge against stronger restrictions. Every time the grabbers have a bright idea our lobbyists and pro gun reps all remind the committee/assembly that we already have a version of UBC.

I'd love to see it go, but when it does it has to go with the UUW and everything else it's cancerous tentacles have gotten into.

If I recall correctly...there have been former IL residents who have traveled back here for visits and police have arrested them for not having a FOID. The police claim was that they're IL residents.

In other words...law enforcement will say you're not a resident if it suits their needs at the moment...and they'll say you are a resident if it suits their needs the next moment.

It pays to have a lawyer lined up. Do not try to explain. Do not answer questions. Just call your lawyer.
