New(ish) firearm owner looking to feel out local gun laws

Hello, I'm a resident of lockport (will county) and I'm looking to do my due diligence before I ante up and purchase a rifle.

I was looking at AR's but they get more expensive by the moment thanks to the scare that's swamping this community.

So I've decided to look into 'ole reliable' options.. Like an Norinco SKS or a Ruger mini 14 for instance.

I was wondering if I could even own.. well any of these kinds of firearms in will county.
Once I have that established I'd love some insight on what I should procure. (An AR being the ideal but that may be put on hold at the moment)

Thanks.

You can search the Lockport Code for relevant ordinances. Chapter 131: Weapons of Title XIII seems to mirror state law, meaning the kinds of firearms you're looking at aren't prohibited, at not least in that section.

With Rink's right there on Archer Ave. selling ARs pretty regularly I'd be surprised if they're prohibited in Lockport.

I take a look at what has been shipped from manufacturers to Davidson's every now and then, since Davidson's has that functionality on its website.

The only thing that's been shipping consistently since the apocalypse began is bolt-action rifles. Sometimes there's something else, but, whatever it is, it doesn't stay in stock more than a few days.

So unless new gun owners want bolt-action rifles, the only options are really whatever shops have in stock on the day they go shopping or whatever someone is selling used, especially if it's someone they know. Thinking you'll pick up a particular make and model is a futile effort at the moment.

I suspect movies have made semi-autos so popular. I prefer bolt action for many reasons.

Nearly every country in world has chosen magazine fed small arms for an average of something like 50 years. They're a unanimously more efficacious weapon for nearly all conflict. I'd wager that it's more than just motion films being the primary influence.
