Marie Posted August 31, 2014 at 04:12 AM Share Posted August 31, 2014 at 04:12 AM I'm attending a wedding tomorrow and I just got curious. I wonder if banquet halls forbid CC due to the 51% rule? Has anyone seen a posted banquet hall?
InterestedBystander Posted August 31, 2014 at 04:31 AM Share Posted August 31, 2014 at 04:31 AM Only one I've been to since FCCL passed was the Diplomat West in Elmhurst for the ISRA meeting...and they were NOT posted.
cbobrun Posted August 31, 2014 at 05:40 AM Share Posted August 31, 2014 at 05:40 AM I attended a wedding tonight at the Hyatt Lodge (McDonald's Headquarters) in Oak Brook, IL and they were posted. Not that it mattered to me because I never carry when I drink alcohol. My personal decision.

Prior performance and certification are completely irrelevant.
DomG Posted August 31, 2014 at 01:53 PM Share Posted August 31, 2014 at 01:53 PM Banquet halls should be under 50%. Events that have open bars are generally well under the food cost per person and costed out separately on billing. And if they have cash bars, the spend per person, on average, will be under the food cost per person. Really, just like any restaurant. The Hyatt Lodge was posted because it is Hyatt. It's a corporate thing.

Marie Posted August 31, 2014 at 10:40 PM Author Share Posted August 31, 2014 at 10:40 PM Turns out this reception just isn't at a banquet hall, it's at a privately-owned, membership only country club. It's not on the Posted app. Will be interested to see if it's posted or not. Church wasn't posted so I carried for the ceremony.

GAS3987 Posted September 1, 2014 at 01:28 AM Share Posted September 1, 2014 at 01:28 AM I had my wedding reception at the K of C in Ottawa in 2012. Unfortunately I was not carrying there then anyway. At the time, I do recall they had a bar that was open often and I would figure that's where the posting comes from. GFZ still make no sense to me, AT ALL. Marie Posted September 1, 2014 at 02:22 AM Author Share Posted September 1, 2014 at 02:22 AM This country club is not.posted. ETA: It's The Grove Country Club in Long Grove. I also happily discovered I can dance and bounce around with my Shield on my belt and it sits there, not moving. I'm sure a number of the guests would have been surprised to find out I was dancing while carrying. The thought was amusing...

TAS Posted September 3, 2014 at 12:55 AM Share Posted September 3, 2014 at 12:55 AM Hmmm its a wedding if you feel the need to carry there then I would have stayed home. IMO a unnecessary place to carry but again thats my belief

I typically see off duty friends tasked with watching the gifts/money table at weddings nowadays.

Not that it mattered to me because I never carry when I drink alcohol. My personal decision. My mom works there. They definitely are over 50%.Are they giving away the food and the event venue for free at Hyatt Lodge? Think about how much food costs per person, then add in the event venue costs. If that is more than the "open bar" costs, then you're doing dinner receptions wrong and ordering super top shelf liquor. This is without even calculating children's food costs since they obviously don't drink and don't get billed as part of the alcohol package. I used to be an event coordinator for various huge companies and universities in the Chicagoland area so I know how much this stuff costs. I've used Hyatt Lodge several times to host events. Coming home late at night, you can be danged sure I'll.carry.Marie Dont assume I would call you anything i don't even know you. I simply stated my opinion on my thought of it not being needed carrying inside a wedding. Which is exactly what you asked about carrying inside of the banquet hall. And no Nic of all the weddings i have attend there was not a issue of theft nor off duties watching the gift tables. A drunk mans fight breaking out a few times but nothing that would require bringing a firearm inside. But to each is their own some feel the need to carry in every place they can and whiles others don't.

IMO a unnecessary place to carry but again thats my belief What about the walk to the parking lot at night? What if she broke down on the side of the road? If we could predict the future, knowing when something would go wrong we could just avoid going to the place of trouble. However that isn't reality & $hit can get real...any time & any place. It is my stance that if I can carry I will carry, no matter what. Even when going with my wife for her allergy shots I carry. Her dr office is inside of a hospital. Even if I know we are going there and back home, with no stops in between I still carry. I don't like having to remove my weapon, but I wear it since I don't know what that day is going to bring. The point of carry is to protect yourself and your loved ones. While it is very unlikely you will need it at any given time/ situation (or else you would just avoid that situation), it is much better safe than sorry. You never know the future... And to the original question, I have seen some posted. But I assume it to be because of their management's decision, not because required by law.
