Gary Slider Posted November 28, 2018 at 08:45 PM Share Posted November 28, 2018 at 08:45 PM This map belongs to IL Carry and they have all rights to it. Microsoft Paint will update the colors on the map and change the text at the bottom. If there is a change if you let me know I will update it for you. Simple to do. admins@handgunlaw.us

He keeps it online and I do the research. Neither of us can do it alone. We are going on 13 years old with the site. Makes Handgunlaw.us almost old enough to carry in some states. I link to your site almost every day. Vanilla in appearance but the information in unsurpassed.

Gary Slider Posted November 29, 2018 at 02:51 AM Author Share Posted November 29, 2018 at 02:51 AM Actually I wasn't going to post this until the 1st. I have updated just about every page at Handgunlaw.us Adding a new document titled, “Age to Carry With a Permit the State Honors or Under Permitless Carry” Thee will be a link to this Document on every states page at the bottom of the Links Section. More and more states are starting to issue to those under 21 especially Active Military and Vets under 21. West Virginia and Maine require those carrying under permitless carry to be 21 but if you are Active Military/Vet in Maine you can carry at 18 and in WV if you are active Military you can carry at 18 without a permit. Then some states honor some permits issued to those 18 from some states but not all as they go by the criteria the other state issues permits under. So a state may honor a permit issued to someone 18 from State X but not State Y. Attached is the document “Age to Carry With a Permit the State Honors or Under Permitless Carry” and IL Carry will be the first to see it.Age_to_Carry.pdf

Gary Slider Posted November 29, 2018 at 03:17 AM Author Share Posted November 29, 2018 at 03:17 AM Michigan along with Maine, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, New Hampshire, Colorado and Florida honor a lot of states. But they will not honor a permit issued by one of those states if the holder of the permit is not a resident of the state. Michigan will honor Florida permit held by a resident of FL but Me being from WV and having a FL Permit Michigan will not honor it as I am not a resident of FL. Michigan Honors all other states permits to carry. So any permit Held by a non-resident of any state is not valid for them in Michigan as they are not a resident of the issuing state. quackersmacker Posted November 29, 2018 at 06:12 AM Share Posted November 29, 2018 at 06:12 AM It's amazing that so many states recognize ILLannoy, when IL recognizes none, and only 4 states are allowed to get non-res CCLs in ILLannoy.
Gamma Posted November 29, 2018 at 07:31 AM Share Posted November 29, 2018 at 07:31 AM It's amazing that so many states recognize ILLannoy, when IL recognizes none, and only 4 states are allowed to get non-res CCLs in ILLannoy. The more recent trend is for states to simply recognize all permits/licenses for non-residents of their state. Some states do analysis of other state's requirements to determine what permits they will recognize. Formal reciprocity is almost an anachronism. Hatchet Posted November 29, 2018 at 07:52 PM Share Posted November 29, 2018 at 07:52 PM Some people have larger signatures, also when on mobile data, its uses data to download the same signature that may be repeated multiple times in a single thread. Ranger Posted December 18, 2018 at 07:40 PM Share Posted December 18, 2018 at 07:40 PM Thanks Gary! I would imagine that it is frustrating and challenging to get updated on, track, and reflect all the quirks each state puts in place.
Ranger Posted December 19, 2018 at 04:52 PM Share Posted December 19, 2018 at 04:52 PM Gary: I've referred to your site many times and have recommended it to many others. A couple possible suggestions for the site / maps if I may... When I'm traveling, I'm not so worried about whether a certain state honors my Illinois permit as to whether I can legally carry there. As an example, I create a map showing my IL CCW and West Virginia doesn't honor it (so the last three trips through there, I had disarmed for the short time traveled through); but I would have still been legal if I hadn't if I'm understanding the text correctly. Maybe a small nuance; but maybe an important one. I don't know best way to show. Maybe two maps. One showing states which honor permits and one which shows where legal to carry with the permits I have. Also... When choosing states and reading text, it appears that if I choose Florida on the build the map app, it assumes that it is a resident Florida permit instead of a non-resident. I wonder if it might be nice to have two choices beside each state where can choose type of permit (resident or non-resident) so it can build the map accordingly. Otherwise, one might not read the text and assume they're legal with that non-resident permit where they actually aren't. Also, would make it much clearer at a glance which states I could gain by obtaining certain non-resident permits. Thanks for all your efforts! Gary Slider Posted December 22, 2018 at 03:59 PM Author Share Posted December 22, 2018 at 03:59 PM Ranger, Go to www.handgunlaw.us an click on Create a Map in the left column. It doesn't take you to the application but gives you a notice page. If you have a direct link saved to the Create a map you will miss this page which is more important that the Create a Map app. You should read that page and see if any of those apply to you. There are apps out there that build a map for you and will show a state that only honors your resident permit and will show states that are Permitless Carry. They will not show you all the ins and outs of how states honor each other. Those apps cost thousands of dollars. www.handgunlaw.us is free and has no ads. Steve and I do this as the info is needed. The major thing about firearm laws and traveling you have to read and you have to read a lot as there are hidden traps for people that can get them arrested. Carry in Maine under permitless carry is legal but try that in one of their State Parks or National Parks and you will be arrested. Need a permit they issue or honor to carry in those places. Permitless carry not allowed. Even though Maine is a permitless carry state they don't honor all other states. West Virginia is a permitless carry state. With a permit WV issues or honors I can keep my firearm on me and drive onto a K-12 school property and pick up my child. Even store it in my locked vehicle. But under permitless carry if you do that you are an instant Felon. WV doesn't honor all other states either. Pennsylvania just changed their rules this year. AG amended all agreements with the states they have and published new rules. The permits they do honor will only be honored if the holder is a resident of the state they honor! These are just some of the quirks in how states honor each other. You need to read the Notice Page.
