Hello, Senator. I'm calling as your constituent to ask you to support SB1966, the BIO Bill, a bill which would block illegal gun ownership by keeping guns away from people who cannot pass a criminal background check. Will you agree today to #FixtheFOID by supporting the BIO Bill and help save lives in Illinois?

Now its the BIO bill. This has got to be recent (as in VERY recent), and interesting the change considering the recent polling from NPR........

BIO= Biometrics

And more on Accurate Biometrics, one of the proponents/lobbyists for SB1966

I assume not based on exceptions, but does the Biometrics privacy act potentially come into play at all regarding retention and destruction of data?

(have not read the act yet)

Sickening. Cronies, ha! BFF F ing legal gun owners. They don't really care about anything, but money and power. Nice work again, Steve!

How many of those have had their FOID "revoked" due to a simple expiration or moving out of state?

My guess is MOST.

1/3 or less if you believe the stats. The numbers in the OP come from the article here:

http://illinoiscarry.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=72082

Before the Tribune finished its analysis, gun rights advocates predicted it would be a waste of time, insisting most people had their cards revoked simply because they moved out of state. In reality, less than 4% or 1,332 of 34,221 lost their FOIDs for that reason.

I'm really confused now. I thought the process for obtaining a FOID included a background check. Not to mention purchasing a gun requires a NICS check.

So what exactly is this trying to change with the FOID?Increased fees, no private sales, required fingerprints, etc

For this to make sense, FOID holders have to be significantly (statistics) more likely to commit crime than non-FOID holders.

I can't imagine that being the case.

It’s about money, the company lobbying for the biometrics and finger printing want to get paid back and then they will kick some of the profits back to the Illinois Democratic Party As “campaign donations” which get distributed throughout party and kicked up to Madigan, and Cullerton.

Madigan has reportedly spent $1.5 mill in legal fees for the sexual Harassment issue and the party needs that money back.

And then their bag man Burke is in court and can’t be passing out his 10 mill without the feds watching his every move.

Not to mention the feds breathing down their necks, their having a tough time moving the money around and then there’s all the money for attorneys.... and they don’t know who’s getting pinched next.

It’s hard out here on a ....gun-grabber, trying to make that money for the rent. ;-)

-You need an ID to get fingerprints.

-People from Communities of Color and Low Economic Satus have a hard time getting IDs.

-This law disenfranchises both the Poor and People of Color.

Increased FOID fees will go further to disenfranchise Poor and People of Color (as well as older people on fixed incomes) from being able to afford guns.

I'm seriously thinking of moving.

I do agree with you both about the garbage bill, but I'm just curious. Why would, "People of Color", be disenfranchised differently than poor people or those on fixed incomes? Seems like it's just a matter of finances and not one of race. IDs of some sort are available for free or very low cost. DMV? Not sure what the price is there.
