It wasn't legal law abiding citizen firearm owners, REALLY?

“The arrests on Tuesday came after a multiyear law enforcement investigation focused on the distribution of narcotics and guns in the Englewood neighborhood on the South Side and other parts of the city, c said in a statement,” CNN reports. “Court documents describe more than 50 transactions in which the alleged gang members sold guns or drugs to people cooperating with law enforcement, according to the statement. Many of the transactions were captured on video.”

When a guy gets a street nickname "murder" because he does hits for his drug supplier, I doubt he has a FOID card.

...On January 11, 2011, discussing his relationship with his crack cocaine supplier, [McMiller] told [the witness], I do hits for him, and then, I go in for him, meaning that [McMiller] kills people for money on behalf of his supplier, prosecutors wrote. [The witness] clarified, So you a hit man for him? [McMiller] responded, Yeah, to which [the witness] replied, Thats why they call you Murder....

Perhaps belonging in a separate thread, a different story reported in the Chicago Tribune over the last couple days but one of the felons also got charged with being in possession of a laser sight. As we have discussed before, add on charges for someone already prohibited from gun ownership. (edit)

...Police find AK-47, guns with laser attachments and body armor inside Burnside shooting victims home

...

Just to avoid misunderstanding for those who don't read the linked article, the laser he was charged with possessing isn't the uber-powerful blind-you-before-you-know-it kind. It's just a regular this-red-dot-is-where-the-bullet-goes laser sight, which is illegal in Chicago.

Multi year federal law enforcement efforts and this is the culmination?

Authorities also seized 24 firearms, more than a kilogram of heroin, about 1,350 grams of heroin laced with fentanyl, some 750 grams of fentanyl or fentanyl analogue, around 378 grams of crack cocaine, $52,595 in suspected illicit cash proceeds, and distribution quantities of suspected MDMA pills,” per CNN.

I'd say that they need to do a better job. How much money did this cost tax-payers? One sworn officer is making more than the $52,595 that they recovered.

My guess is that because it's an election year, they sprung the trap too early. They should have a lot more to show for a multi-year investigation.

Well, the point is to enforce law. I'm a lot more comfortable with law enforcement being a not-for-profit than expecting to recoup more than the cost of enforcement.

And we really don't know if the "trap", as you describe it, is quite fully sprung or not. Or maybe it's more accurate to say that although the trap has been sprung, the results of that may or may not be fully known to you or I at the moment. Either way, I'm also OK with the results being the results with no expectation of arresting X number of people. They should arrest those who need to be arrested and leave everyone else alone.

If law enforcement were to set monetary and arrest goals, and strive to meet those goals, then we would have truly unacceptable results.
