clarkjlr1 Posted July 20, 2018 at 07:49 PM Share Posted July 20, 2018 at 07:49 PM Haven't posted anything for quite a while. This may have been discussed here or elsewhere so I apologize ahead of time if so. Went to the Northbrook Mariano's that I frequent often, and it was no gun posted. Called to speak to manager and they said that corporate just sent them the sticker along with a letter requiring them to oblige. Mgr was cordial and thanked me for my business but said it was not up to him. Called corporate (Roundy's) and was rudely and un-apologetically told that that they really didn't care what I thought and that the policy isn't going to change(never got that far in the conversation). I haven't checked to see if other Mariano's in the area have posted yet. I know they are owned by Roundy's....not sure if they have always been posted or not. Looks like Jewel or elsewhere is going to get my $5000-6000+++ each year now! Buh bye.
Patriots & Tyrants Posted July 20, 2018 at 07:56 PM Share Posted July 20, 2018 at 07:56 PM And I will no longer be a customer of Marianos; I had a feeling this might happen with the change of ownership.
Hipshot Percussion Posted July 20, 2018 at 07:57 PM Share Posted July 20, 2018 at 07:57 PM The two by me - Wheaton and Lombard - are NOT posted. You may want to contact Mariano's main office and see if this manager has gone rogue - and let them know you won't be going back till the sign is down. InterestedBystander Posted July 20, 2018 at 07:58 PM Share Posted July 20, 2018 at 07:58 PM Iirc, the Northbrook Marianos is the one Lee Goodman was picketing because they did not post and they told him to go pound sand. Something must have changed. Am I remembering correctly that Krogers was trying to buy the Roundys Mariano stores?

Have you been to yours within last week? Just checking. Also, I've found that since the I've had my CC, and things have "kind of" sorted themselves out as far as who posts and who doesn't, I pay less attention to signage at familiar places. I actually just caught this one out of the corner of my eye before getting in door.

Quiet Observer Posted July 20, 2018 at 08:14 PM Share Posted July 20, 2018 at 08:14 PM Mariano’s in Wheaton and Carol Stream are not posted. Roundy’s is a wholly owned subsidiary of Kroger. In 2015 Kroger opposed Moms Demand Action. “On CNBC's Squawk Box Wednesday, Kroger CEO Michael Schlotman said that the company wouldn't cave to the demands of an anti-gun group that organized a campaign against the grocery chain, according to Breitbart News. Scholtman explained: That was a group called Moms Demand Action. They were opposed to the fact that our policy is to adhere to the local gun laws. If the local gun laws are to allow open carry, we’ll certainly allow customers to do that based on what the local laws are. We don’t believe it’s up to us to legislate what the local gun control laws should be. It’s up to the local legislators to decide to do that. So we follow local laws [and] we ask our customers to be respectful to the other people they are shopping with. And we really haven’t had any issues inside of our stores as a result of that”. https://ijr.com/2015/03/280766-kroger-grocery-ceo-responds-anti-gun-group-despite-active-boycott-campaign/ I am skeptical that a public relations representative of multi-million dollar grocery chain would literally tell a caller that the company does not care what they thought. mic6010 Posted July 20, 2018 at 09:55 PM Share Posted July 20, 2018 at 09:55 PM Yeah that's not an acceptable way to talk to a customer regardless of what they are asking about. If that was me I would have been asking for names and supervisors. You shouldn't let yourself be talked to like that. Ever.

dumpnpump Posted July 21, 2018 at 01:58 AM Share Posted July 21, 2018 at 01:58 AM Kroger is the parent company of an Arizona grocery store chain called Frys. Kroger's via Frys has in the past been very pro 2a going so far as to tell the anti's to go pound sand. I was always pleased to see the Kroger logo in light of their position. jagt48 Posted July 21, 2018 at 03:42 AM Share Posted July 21, 2018 at 03:42 AM Mariano's at Western and Roscoe in Chicago still is not posted as of a couple of days ago. I think in here it has to do with the liquor licenses. The one on Ashland and Webster is and they serve wine and beer you can carry around while shopping. Looks like Jewel or elsewhere is going to get my $5000-6000+++ each year now! Buh bye. Recently Northbrook passed an amendment to their liquor code requiring businesses with on premise liquor licenses to post signage prohibiting the lawful carrying of firearms. It was a feel good law that accomploishes nothing. It was passed a couple months ago and most business just ignored it and didn't post. Recently Northbrook PD sent officers to every business (including mine) that have on premise liquor licenses and handed us those stupid signs and told us to post or else we couldn't renew our liquor licenses. I can't speak for other establishements in the area, but the signage on our restaurant has been altered in a way so that it is no longer compliant, we will also not be enforcing the stupid ordinance because we value our guests, especially the ones that are packin' because they're always better behaved anyways. Sunset Foods on Cherry in Northbrook also made an alteration to their sign noting that they are posted because of the liquor code and not as per ILCS 430 65. There are exceptions in the ordinance for business owners and operators, current or retired law enforcement, as well as for security. Also there is NO PENALTY for persons who are in violation of this ordinance, there might be a penalty for the business however. It was a stupid decision on the part of Northbrook and every day I see those stupid stickers on my business they somehow end up becoming less and less compliant. Euler Posted July 21, 2018 at 04:11 PM Share Posted July 21, 2018 at 04:11 PM From www.northbrook.il.us On May 22, the Village Board approved ... prohibiting concealed carry of firearms on any premise where alcohol is sold for on-premises consumption. From An Ordinance Amending Division 2 of Article II Chapter 4 of the Northbrook Municipal Code (1988) Prohibiting the Concealed Carry of Firearms on Any Premises Where Alcohol is Sold for On-Premises Consumption The owner of the premises or place of business operating under a village license for the sale of alcoholic liquor shall post a sign indicating that firearms are prohibited on the property. Signs stating that the carrying of firearms is prohibited shall be clearly and conspicuously posted at the entrance of the building, premises, or real property containing the licensed premises. clarkjlr1 Posted July 21, 2018 at 08:10 PM Author Share Posted July 21, 2018 at 08:10 PM Original poster here. Seems to now make "some" sense re the posting at the Northbrook Mariano's(while I obviously don't agree). I absolutely was told by the manager that the order came from corporate(maybe he was told this) and I DID call and talk to the Kroger(Old roundy's) customer service. While she(HQ) didn't confirm that all Mariano's were subject to the posting request(I took the mgr's word), she DID say verbatim that "the policy" won't change. Now maybe HQ found out about the new Northbrook "liquor" rule, and told THEM to comply....not sure. I suppose I could call both again on Monday and try and have them clarify. I probably should. Great responses and feedback....thanks. P.S. Have been planning on moving out of Highland Park for a few years. Now can't go to Deerfield or Northbrook. Which town is next to succumb? DomG Posted July 21, 2018 at 10:19 PM Share Posted July 21, 2018 at 10:19 PM They are trying to cloak it as a liquor control ordinance rather than the gun control ordinance that it is. It would be struck down by a court.Chicago has (had???) the same rule and when CCL first come out, just about every restaurant downtown with an on premise liquor license posted, regardless of percent of business. Now, those stickers are rare to see. After the initial uproar, people forget, stickers peel or fade, windows get replaced, etc, and they don't go back up.
