...Tuesday, June 19th, 2018 the Woodford County Board had its monthly meeting. The agenda was full of resolutions and ordinances that needed to be voted on. Most were passed unanimously especially the resolution declaring Woodford a Sanctuary County. This is a new resolution that many counties in IL are taking part of in hopes of avoiding any new gun restrictions that Democratic policymakers may try to pass. They are trying to nip it in the bud before any legislation is voted on. This is a way of protecting citizens 2nd amendment rights. The idea began in Effingham County and was started by Bryan Kibler their top prosecutor. Many counties have adopted this ideology and are voting on these resolutions.

The measures that counties are trying to counteract with their resolutions include:

Setting the minimum age to possess a semiautomatic assault weapon at 21.

Banning the sale, manufacture, purchase, and possession of bump stocks and trigger cranks.

Setting a 72-hour waiting period for the purchase of any firearm....

Looks like Tazewell could be another addition after todays 6/27 meeting.

Agenda item:

Approve resolution in support of the second amendment

Upon approval of In-Place meeting

Tazewell County board approves auditor referendum, 2nd Amendment resolution

http://www.pekintimes.com/news/20180627/tazewell-county-board-approves-auditor-referendum-2nd-amendment-resolution

The Tazewell County Board on Wednesday voted to approve a resolution making Tazewell a Second Amendment sanctuary county, and to place a referendum in the November 2018 ballot that would replace Tazewell Countys elected auditor with a county appointed one.

Items on the county board agenda included Fiscal Year 2019 budget parameters, a resolution in support of the Second Amendment, and a referendum to eliminate county auditor as an elected position and install an accounting professional appointed by the county board.

Before proceeding to agenda items, the board invited comments from members of the public and Tazewell County employees. Several area residents spoke for and against a request to make Tazewell County a sanctuary county for legal gun owners.

Upon taking your elected positions on the Tazewell County Board, you took an oath of office to uphold the Constitution, said Steve Dennis of Pekin in an address to the board members. Please dont let people who are against this resolution prevent you from doing the right thing. The egregious attempt by Springfield politicians to override the Second Amendment is why we need the Tazewell County Board to pass this resolution.

Because of intense public interest in the question of making Tazewell a Second Amendment sanctuary county, the board moved the question to the top of the evenings agenda and unanimously voted to approve the resolution.

Clark County Board approves 2nd Amendment Support Resolution

Today, the Clark County Board passed a Resolution expressing its displeasure with the Illinois State Legislatures continuous attacks on the Second Amendment Rights of its citizens.

Similar to Effingham County who recently adopted a Gun Sanctuary Resolution, the Clark County Board adopted a similar Resolution but leaving out the Sanctuary language.

County Boards responding to citizens, hmm could be a trend!

This is what he forwarded to other members of Douglas co. board on may 10th

All,

Spoke with this gentleman on the phone and gave him my personal opinion, both on the subject and about bringing such matters before the Board in resolution form. I made it clear that I was speaking to him as a citizen just as himself and in no way would presume to speak as the Board. I told him I would forward this to all of you with no expectations of action. Don

Any update on Bond county?

County Board Talks Gun Sanctuary With A Full House

Gun sanctuary was the main topic of discussion again at Tuesdays Bond County Board meeting. A large crowd gathered and for the second consecutive meeting, the proceedings had to be moved into the county courtroom to accommodate the audience.

The Bond County Board proposed a resolution in support of the Second Amendment and residents weighed in during a discussion for over 30 minutes.

Most audience members urged the county board to include language naming Bond County a sanctuary county for law abiding gun owners.

Many counties in the area have passed sanctuary resolutions. These resolutions are not legally binding in any way, but are intended to send a message to lawmakers. The resolutions specifically speak out in opposition to four proposed House Bills and one proposed Senate Bill. Effingham Countys resolution goes so far as to say should those measures pass, the county will prohibit employees from enforcing them.

Board members expressed hesitation to include the word sanctuary in their resolution.

Bond County Board Chairman Howard Elmore told WGEL the board looked into other sanctuary counties and noted that the laws those counties were opposing hadnt passed yet. He also said the Bond County board did not want to instruct anyone to break any laws.

Click below to hear his comments in full:

Following discussion, board member Gerald Spanky McCray said the proposed resolution wasnt enough for those in attendance and moved to take no action on the matter and work on the resolution some more. That motion passed three to two, with Howard Elmore and Wes Pourchot voting no.

...After many public comments and several re-writes, Board Chairman Howard Elmore read a resolution, which the board passed in their meeting Tuesday morning.

The resolution states any measure proposed or passed by the Illinois General Assembly should be closely monitored by citizens and if those citizens fear the legislation infringes on their rights guaranteed by the Constitution of the United States or of the Constitution of the State of Illinois, the citizens should approach their representatives in the House and Senate and the governor.

The resolution also urges members of General Assembly to respect the constitutional rights of Illinois citizens.

The resolution passed 4 to 1, with Wes Pourchot casting the no vote....

26 Illinois counties have passed gun sanctuary resolutions.

...A "gun sanctuary" trend spreading across Illinois counties in support of Second Amendment rights has raised questions about just who is allowed to decide what is or isn't constitutional where guns are concerned.

At least 26 of Illinois' 102 counties have passed "gun sanctuary" resolutions or similar measures. The term is a play on the phrase "sanctuary city," which describes cities where political and law enforcement leaders limit their cooperation with federal immigration policies and vow to protect immigrant rights....

...The trend picked up speed in May and came to a total of at least 26 counties in June, with more counties planning to consider measures in July. Here's a look at why the counties passed Second Amendment rights support resolutions, what their resolutions say and why some counties are resisting.

The 26 counties are: Brown, Christian, Clark, Clay, Cumberland, Douglas, Effingham, Fayette, Ford, Greene, Hamilton, Hardin, Henry, Iroquois, Jasper, Jefferson, Lawrence, Monroe, Perry, Pope, Saline, Shelby, Washington, Wayne, White and Woodford....

...At least 12 counties will consider adopting similar resolutions in the coming months....

What is the official count now? Do we have an updated map on the way?

The news article for Mercer last week indicated they were number 30. Calhoun is supposed to be voting next week and another article said another 12 would be voting soon.

Figured Kevin was busy and will get to an updated map when he can.

1) Clinton did not pass a resolution like many other counties

Sullivan reported that they have started working on the security for the courthouse again.

Him reported that in the past month, several counties have passed resolutions declaring themselves as sanctuary counties for gun owners. They have done this because they are in opposition to the passage of any bill that the Illinois General Assembly would try to pass that would restrict the individual rights of citizens protected by the Second Amendment. 2) Bond also did something similar by passing a resolution but it did not include the more standard gun sanctuary wording:

The resolution states any measure proposed or passed by the Illinois General Assembly should be closely monitored by citizens and if those citizens fear the legislation infringes on their rights guaranteed by the Constitution of the United States or of the Constitution of the State of Illinois, the citizens should approach their representatives in the House and Senate and the governor.

The resolution also urges members of General Assembly to respect the constitutional rights of Illinois citizens.
