Sam_Lowry Posted March 4, 2009 at 06:14 PM Share Posted March 4, 2009 at 06:14 PM LINKY! I didn't see this posted anywhere, so please forgive me if I missed it. I thought this was quite "out of character" of Speaker Pelosi. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi tossed cold water on the prospect of reinstating the assault weapons ban, highlighting Democrats’ reluctance to take on gun issues. Attorney General Eric Holder raised the prospect Wednesday that the administration would push to bring back the ban. But Pelosi (D-Calif.) indicated on Thursday that he never talked to her. The Speaker gave a flat “no” when asked if she had talked to administration officials about the ban. “On that score, I think we need to enforce the laws we have right now,” Pelosi said at her weekly news conference. “I think it's clear the Bush administration didn’t do that.” Outside of the dig at the recent Republican president, that phrase is the stock line of those who don’t want to pass new gun control laws, such as the National Rifle Association. The White House declined to comment on Holder's remarks, referring reporters to the Department of Justice. The DoJ did not respond to The Hill's request for comment. MARKHOLSTRUM Posted March 4, 2009 at 07:16 PM Share Posted March 4, 2009 at 07:16 PM I dont forsee much push for new legislation(will cost them a 1994 turnover) but rather a crackdown on what is already on the books.
johnyt101 Posted March 4, 2009 at 08:05 PM Share Posted March 4, 2009 at 08:05 PM That is why we must get the "sporting use" language removed from the 68 GCA. The Second Amendment Foundation challenged the "sporting purposes" clause along wiht Alan Gura, in the 5th and 6th circuit court of appeals but both cases were dismissed. Sporting Purposes Cases Dismissed I cannot see how the "sporting purposes" clause is constitutional considering Heller clearly states that you cannot ban firearms used for SELF DEFENSE! Again, SCOTUS re-enforced the fact that the Second Amendment is not about hunting or sports. Its about defense of yourself, state, family, others, and property from a tyranical government both foreign or domestic and also from lawlessness. GWBH Posted March 5, 2009 at 02:36 AM Share Posted March 5, 2009 at 02:36 AM I wouldn't get too excited about anything seemingly positive Pelosi says about guns, especially an AWB.Ask yourself this - do I trust her? I don't need to say anything else - except, "smoke and mirrors".They're just picking the time and place for this one...
