According to data that ISP provided in an email, 147,862 FOID card applications were received during the first four months of the disaster declaration, March through June. That was more than double the number received in the prior four-month period.

From July through September, ISP said it received 135,798 applications for new or renewed FOID cards.

There are currently more than 142,000 FOID card applications pending and more than 26,000 applications pending for concealed carry licenses.

This is criminal neglect of the states responsibility to protect the rights of the citizen. The street gang running Illinois want billions in bail out money from the feds. Any hear if they’re gonna give millions to the ISP to get up to date on the  FOID system?

It's my understanding the ISP has excess money and has been giving it back to the state's general fund, this is pure neglect, mismanagement and an intentional denial of rights.

The main problem is the law states the time the state has to process these but there is no punishment for the state when it does not meet its own set deadline. IF the state folks were being perped walked in cuffs to the local jail for not meeting the requirement, things would be different.

I dont know what the current fund amounts are (wonder if that is FOIAable)...seem to recall they got 2, or maybe it was up to 7 million, in last budget. They should force the state to return the $32M+ they swept to other state funds from the Firearm Services Bureau. They need more than a new $750k VoiP phone system.

Or how about the courts do their jobs and strike down this unconstitutional BS?

"You know, there are some words I've known since I was a schoolboy: 'With the first link, the chain is forged. The first speech censured...the first thought forbidden...the first freedom denied--chains us all irrevocably.' Those words were uttered by Judge Aaron Satie, as wisdom...and warning. The first time any man's freedom is trodden on, we're all damaged..." - Capt. Jean-Luc Picard

Article I saw said, as of 10-13-2020, it's an average of 116 days for a FOID and 130 days for a CCL.

Meanwhile ... they piss away all that money on pet "No Bid" projects for their Contractor buddies.  Gotta buy those votes and make sure the campaign coffers stay full.

Nothing will change until gun owners with pending FOID apps, file a class-action against the state. I wouldn't even go after the FOID Act, I would just go after the state's requirement in the act, which forces people to renew every ten years and pay $10.

Still my son, he has nothing in his records that could cause a no vote, expect maybe he is human and lives in this state..

My son applied for his renewal in march. 8 months and nothing. He has to print out Covid docs to do anything related to the shooting sports. This and the marxists taking

control nation wide is very disturbing.

It’s truly sad that we accept this whole FOID thing at all, regardless of how long we wait for a constitutional right.

I don't know if I would say 'we' accept it, as many of us have lobbied against it, the people accepting it are the activist judges that refuse to abolish the FOID entirely or at minimum make the state follow the laws they authored.  We need a judge to say that any delays beyond that allowed by law opens up the responsible individuals to 1983 lawsuits for deprivation of rights lawsuits in their individual capacity, it's only when you hold those responsible and accountable will things actually change, that was the entire purpose of section 1983 law but the threshold has been set so high by activist courts that it's essentially useless!

I don't accept it...

I'm forced to live with it though cause some A-HOLES thought it was a good idea before I was born.

This was the brainchild of King Richard I, who wanted to keep blacks from buying firearms.  The FOID was envisioned as a deterrent in that regard.  Therefore, this leftist violation of everyone's 2A rights is, in fact, RACIST!

I think he wanted to ban handguns.

Illinois is not the only state. My renewal for my Florida carry license is stilled being processed according to their automated system. I sent the renewal application in early July.

I could live with the FOID system *IF* someone could actually provide data that it does anything to improve gun safety! Alas, I can find no such evidence. All it provides is a bureaucratic hurdle to overcome. There is nothing that the FOID does better than simply having instant background checks.

This.

If the FOID actually did anything it purported to do, I don't think it would be a huge deal, however, whenever I hear Antis claiming that "Universal Background Checks" would solve all our problems with gang violence, I mention that Illinois has Universal Background Checks and they don't do what the Antis claim that they will. If anything, us having the FOID is proof to the country that the Anti agenda doesn't work as promised.

Sometimes explaining the pre-computerized roots of the FOID card helps non-gun folks understand the dinosaur it has become.
