Tactical Treatment of Gunshot & Knife Wounds

Dr. G

Recommended Posts

If Chicago reached 800 murdered in 2016, how many more were wounded, but didn't die??? Experts agree, the number would have been significantly higher, had it not been for the use of modern medical equipment and techniques. You don’t have to look for trouble, in order for trouble to find you!

This is a unique opportunity to learn what steps to take to stabilize a victim of a gunshot wound or serious penetrating trauma (including knife wounds) for the 3-30 minutes it may take until the ambulance arrives. This may be a family member, innocent by-stander or even yourself. This class based on principles of tactical medicine is designed for home owners/defenders, firearm instructors, and police/security officers, concerned citizens, etc.

In this class you will learn critical anatomy, ballistic impact, managing the three major causes of death, using hemostatic agents, using tourniquets, putting together a trauma kit for home and vehicle and other topics to keep a person alive until help arrives. This class is presented both as classroom theory and practical hands on training. Be sure to bring a pen and paper for taking notes.

Tactical Treatment of Gunshot Wounds is taught by a paramedic with the Chicago Fire Department with over 31 years of experience on the tough inner city streets.

When: Sunday February 4, 2018

Where: 2548 E. 83rd St., Chicago Il, 60617

Time: 10:00 am - 6:00 pm

Rule #1 for surviving a gun shot or stab wound, live as close as possible to mt Sinai or cook county hospital! Growing up in the lower west side of the city, everyone has been shot or stabbed and luckily for us, we lived roughly 5-10 minutes away from a trauma center so most of us survived! Other than that, I’ve seen people plug up gun shot wounds with their fingers and used duck tape to patch up stab wounds!

Based on numbers, you may want Christ hospital instead.

Course # ESTI.0900.2

This 1-day training course focuses on providing the student with the skills and knowledge to mentally and physically survive a traumatic injury.

Every day, citizens engage in daily activity that exposes them to risk of being injured. Simple things such as traveling in a vehicle, hiking, biking or just being in the wrong place at the wrong time can potentially lead to situations where people are injured.

The threat of being injured in a traffic crash or becoming the victim of violent crime lingers and lurks around us every day we leave our homes to do the things we do in every day life.

In dealing with situations of this nature, people are exposed to various types of serious traumatic injuries such as lacerations and blunt trauma to more serious injuries such as gunshot wounds.

Emergency medical services may not always be readily available or may not have timely access to you when you are injured. Being able to identify various types of injuries and knowing how to administer emergency self-aid may keep you alive until you can receive advanced medical care.

Using techniques designed for and proven by the U.S. military, this course introduces the student to pre-incident planning, preparation, and provision of basic, effective, initial medical care for immediate personal application and emergency wound care for others.

Knowing how to identify a serious injury and taking action within the first few minutes of being injured are critical.

Surviving a serious injury before help arrives may be up to you! What will you do to stay alive?

The following topics will be covered:

• Mental conditioning and survival mindset.

• Individual and team applications.
