I agree! Unless everyone gets an hour in an actual FBI, "House Simulator", with live people and a guest appearance by Chuck Norris.

Maxon's has the following rates:

$21.95 per person / per hour for handguns
$26.95 per person / per hour for long guns

Given that Shore Galleries is closer to the city people may be willing to pay $6 more. Since I don't have a car, for example, going to Maxon's is still more expensive in terms of cab fare or Zip Car fees.

Per hour rates are redunkulous........
I know I'll get flamed, but before I started working there, Megasports, I was drawn there by the huge inventory and the fact that the range fees were "All Day" fees. No matter if there's a wait or not, stay as long as you like!

I don't like feeling like I'm in a hurry or worried about coming out to find an additional charge is due.

$22.00
$16.95 if you purchase $10.00 or more of ammo at the time you visit

Just FYI

FIRE. PESTILENCE. BRIMSTONE. ASHES. ALL RAINING DOWN ON YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You have a valid point, and that is why we all like choice. There are days when I prefer to take the cheapest options, and there are other days where the more expensive option is the better value. I certainly do like all day passes, but I am such a poor and impatient shooter that I usually exhaust my ammunition before I run out of time.

Bubbacs, thank you for turning me onto that. I may start heading that way if I can shoot the ammo I brought and $10.00 of theirs.

I could be wrong, but Bubbacs can verify as I thought there were restrictions on the brands of ammo that you can bring

Currently no steel cased ammo, Tula etc
Aluminum is being allowed on a case by case situation as they are selling off their supply of Blazer Aluminum ammo, 45, 40 and some 9.
Seriously I can't remember exactly the short list of non allowed, but if you're shooting name brand stuff you'll be ok.
Been getting some of the BA ammo out as it's priced right, sorry can't post that!

Rifles of handgun caliber are allowed
No shotguns
Handguns up to 357mag no issues
If larger than that they like to know so possible accommodations can be made to new shooters by moving large guns to opposite end of the range, but it could be denied if the range is full, be warned.

If any of you stop by, ask for the fat man and say Hi...........

What, no Underwood allowed? It's manufactured in Illinois; rather unfortunate that you would boot someone for using locally produced ammunition.

On the subject of Shore Galleries, I didn't know their range was up and running. If it is, it is the closest to me by more than 10 miles and over an hour less travel by public transportation. It's literally a 20-minute straight bus ride, rather than the next closest, which is Maxon (1.5 hours by public trans and walking on a good day).

That alone would make the hourly rate worth it.

My point exactly! If you live in the city, paying for time/convenience/transport very well may make Shore Galleries's pricing worth it. Maxon's is really far away in traffic -- especially taking the Blue Line to Rosemont and getting an Uber from there, which is how I have to do it, if I don't use a Zip Car.

I went yesterday and shot for about two hours with a guest, and it was well worth what they charge. The range is super clean, very well lit, great ventilation, and the guy who was in charge there, Nick, was super polite, helpful, and knew his business. I'm having one of my firearms that malfunctioned ultrasonically cleaned and checked out to see what's the matter with it, and I'm happy to pay the $45 to have that done so conveniently close to my home.

Also, they give veterans, military, and police discounts for the range, and for FFL transfers. Range time was $25 per hour for me and 10 minutes and $20 for my guest.

Their membership fee is $250 and $99 per month, which lets you bring guests and reserve range lanes. However, if you pay for a year, I was told it saves you $200 on the whole package. If I shoot 2.5 hours a month there with guests, that's more than worth it to drop the money for a year membership.

They also have a nice stock of a wide range of ammunition, lots of decently priced firearms that I saw, and best of all, it's a big, ol' sh!t in the eye of Rahm and the anti-firearm BS that Chicago spews out. That's just icing on top.

While I despise the Cook Clownty ammunition tax idiocy, if I'm supporting a very conveniently located, very well-run LGS, I can overlook the insult if I need to.

I've b!tched and complained about no nearby ranges to me, and this makes that moot for me.

I'll put some updates here as I go there more and see how things shake out in the long run, but for now, it's looking quite good to me.

While it would be great to just step outside and shoot off the back of my porch, certain necessities dictate that I live in the city. Plus, I don't mind paying for access to a good range, since the actual number of firearms I want and need is not all that extensive. I prefer quality and familiarization over owning a whole bunch of them.

Thank you. No need, though. I choose to live in the city, because I value all the amenities -- the bars, restaurants, museums, cultural aspects. It's my choice, and the higher cost of living goes part-in-parcel with the things I want within walking distance.

It does make it more difficult to be pro-2A, though.

Back on the subject of Shore Galleries, I have to give even more plaudits to the place. They confirmed that I do have a firing pin issue with the firearm that they were cleaning and checking, and better than gave me my money back since they couldn't do anything for it: Since I needed an FFL transfer, the guy I've been dealing with there, Nick, waived the fee (which was more than what they charged me for the cleaning and inspection).

As well, when we were talking, when he saw that I have a G29 and am getting a G30, he pulled out an Advantage Arms .22 caliber conversion kit, which for the G29/30 are extremely difficult to find and have been discontinued by AA. The cheapest I'd seen them online anywhere that wasn't sold out was either $399 and $415, and those were sold by the time I contacted the sellers. I have been looking for one for 3 years now, and have pretty much given up on ever getting my hands on one. He gave it to me for $300, which is what their list price is, I suspect, but the only one I think is actually available now anywhere that I've seen is going for $500.

This is literally the best customer service I've ever had at any range/gun store I've been to. Sure, they want my money, and because it's the closest range to Chicago it is a little bit more expensive, but the benefits FAR outweigh the minor negatives in my view.

My guess is S&B is fine, since CCI makes them, Magtech, and Blazer, I believe. It's all essentially the same ammo.
