Cabelas- Hoffman Estates

As long as the price with the high sales tax makes it a better deal than elsewhere. Not sure what you are looking at, but take a look at Marengo Guns. I've bought weapons there $200 below Cabelas.

Not to mention the guys at Marengo guns are way more customer friendly.

Yea, that's one thing about that Cabelas. First it's hard to get the time of day from them. When you do, the interaction is curt at best, condescending most likely. That is, unless your selling an old firearm collection to them. Saw one old lady doing that take up 3 of them for a long time. And, don't make the mistake of trying to check-out with reloading supplies at the register in the firearms section, oh no. Guy was so snotty, so condescending telling me I had to go to the front checkout lines, like I was a moron for trying, I just dropped the powder and the bullets right there on the floor, said never mind, and left. And, they were the ONLY local place that had either (Shipping powder is expensive unless you get a bunch at once, extra hazard fees).

Top of the list is the Shield .45 2.0

Cabelas has a "sale" at $499 Marengo guns $429 and my favorite online retailer Grabagun $319 with crimson trace laser or Performance Center ported, high viz sights with nice case and cleaning kit for $421 and a lot of other configurations. It's worth the FFL fee for me.

I think it's important that folks realize that Cabela's, is absolutely not in favor of the deplorable Cook County taxes and regulations. I have every expectation that the Corp guys wish they never stepped foot in Hoffman Estates, not only for the county crap, but also, some of you might be aware of the square foot tax that HE also hit them with after the fact too. While they may not always have the best pricing, and no doubt, the local pols have made business way tougher on them, they have been pretty strong supporters.

I used to buy guns and ammo at Cabelas, but not since Cook County passed that additional huge tax a few years ago. It makes buying a gun or a box of ammo completely price-uncompetative at Cabelas. It's unfortunate, because I like that store. But if buying a long-gun or ammo, you could do it legally at the Cabela's in Indiana without that tax. For a handgun, if you like the big box stores, Bass Pro is a good option (since they are owned by Cabelas and have pretty much the same stock.)

Another vote for target sport. Cases on sale, delivered no charge. Cabelas was great first few years, still don’t get the CookCounty location. That tax caused the shut of the second floor and they cut back their under glass gun inventory. I just don’t support the metro area that wants to destroy our gun rights anymore.

I used to love to bring baby girl there as she loved the laser shooting range and a piece of fudge. Never bought a firearm there for the above stated reasons, but it was fun when she was young. Now she goes to maxons and out shoots me. That twelve year old eyesight.

By the way was at Maxon's on saturday and they have redone their lanes, very, very nice and modern.

All they had to do was build on the west side of the intersection and they would have been in a different county. Crook county offered them a tax break to build where they are and they took it. I was there to buy ammo and when I found out the price I said no thanks I don't want it. The cashier told me they have to take full shopping carts back at night from people who refuse at the checkout. Don't forget after the ammo tax, you still have to pay the 10% sales tax. Cashier then told me where GAT guns was located down the road.

What are you talking about? Kane county isn't on the other side of the "intersection"? The Kane county boundary is in between Dundee and Beverly, which is over a 1-1/2 miles away. And, Cook County AND Hoffman offered incentives. The fact is, hindsight is 20/20, and no doubt if they could turn back the clock, they would absolutely have built elsewhere, far away from CC and HE. They are being hit pretty hard, and it's sad to see. They are one of the good guys, and they are in a pretty tough situation.

Marengo is much better. I have found a couple used guns that they didn't know what they had at great prices, cabelas is terrible and employees don't know which end of the gun to hold pretty much. I do get reloading supplies there sometimes as I can't find what I want anywhere else. I've gone to bass pro in Gurnee , but their prices are crazy too. Last time I was at cabelas they wanted $400-500 for crusty old mosin nagants . pitiful.

I'm right by the Rt25 ramp and I'm Cook County.

Dude, real easy. Pull up Google Maps and search on Kane County, IL. It will overlay the boundary for you. Not sure what specific address you're talking about, but clearly Cabela's is NOT on the other side of an intersection from Kane County. Sort out your address issue on another thread.

I used to love the Hoffman Cabela's....spend alot of money there..

Since the ammo tax? Not so much.

Ya...I have the same stories from folks that work there about ammo left at checkout etc...

I've know how CROOK screwed that store as well...

After they were 'baited' to build there Crook swooped back in to nail em.

First it was taxing the floor space. Which is why the upper floors are bare.

THEN..they taxed them based on parking lot space evidently after the fact. (Ya know...Cabela's even paid for building the inroads! ..and got no breaks for eating that cost) Crook was just setting them up as far as I'm concerned.

I had one discussion were I suggested they simply 'display' the ammo.

If you want to buy it? You get a lil 'ticket'...travel a mile down the road where they can set up a lil shed on the side of the road with a guy and a register/Credit Card payment app where he will sell you that ammo.

Also....I've said to sales guys there that when they finally decide to move...let me know..I'll help carry some boxes!

I made my last ammo purchase the day after the taxes took effect...(I went there as a 'last trip' in tribute to a store I loved. Was only gonna grab some mags)
