So, instead of not selling guns and ammo anymore they are going to lobby to ban semi-autos and enact more gun control. Those Parkland pukes got there way.......again

Walmart CEO Doug McMillon said on Thursday that he supports a debate over reauthorizing the 1994 Federal Assault Weapons Ban after a series of mass shootings left more than 30 people dead earlier this month, including an incident at a Walmart store.

In an statement, McMillon said he and his company encourage moves to strengthen background checks and remove weapons from those who have been determined to pose an imminent danger.

We do not sell military-style rifles, and we believe the reauthorization of the Assault Weapons ban should be debated to determine its effectiveness in keeping weapons made for war out of the 3 hands of mass murderers, the CEO said.

McMillon's full statement from this CNBC report.

Our hearts continue to be with our associates in El Paso and Southaven and we are focused on the safety of our associates and customers in all our stores and clubs. Those tragic and painful events will be with us forever, and our hearts go out to the families that were impacted. I continue to be amazed by the courage, resilience and caring of our people. As it's become clearer that the shooting in El Paso was motivated by hate, we are more resolved than ever to foster an inclusive environment where all people are valued and welcomed.

As we've shared previously, we will strive to use these experiences to identify additional actions we can take to strengthen our processes, improve our technology and create an even safer environment in our stores. We're also thinking through the broader issues related to gun violence and things we should do to help create safer communities. We would like for everyone to be reminded of the steps we've already taken:

  • We stopped selling handguns in every state but Alaska in the mid-90s.
  • We stopped selling military-style rifles such as the AR-15 in 2015.
  • We raised the age limit to purchase a firearm or ammunition to 21 in 2018.
  • Walmart only sells a firearm after receiving a "green light" on a background check, while federal law only requires the absence of a "red light" after three business days. We don't sell a firearm until we receive a "green light" regardless of the time period.
  • We videotape the point of sale for firearms, only allow certain associates to sell firearms, and secure firearms in a locking case with individual locks, among other measures.
We've attempted to take common sense steps that allow us to serve customers and create a safer environment. We estimate that we represent about 2 percent of the market for firearms today, which we believe places us outside at least the top three sellers in the industry. We estimate we have about a 20 percent share of ammunition.

In the national conversation around gun safety, we're encouraged that broad support is emerging to strengthen background checks and to remove weapons from those who have been determined to pose an imminent danger. We do not sell military-style rifles, and we believe the reauthorization of the Assault Weapons ban should be debated to determine its effectiveness in keeping weapons made for war out of the 3 hands of mass murderers. We must also do more to understand the root causes that lead to this type of violent behavior.

CNBC reports that the interpretation of his statement is "there should be a debate about whether or not an assault weapons ban would even be effective in keeping these weapons out of the hands of mass murderers," not that a ban should be reauthorized because he thinks it would be effective.

........

Yeah - that's the "fear" statement making the rounds.

These people have no clue what a "war" looks like.

Behold this shining example of American "free market" capitalism (as toothless idiots tell it). They put other gun stores out of business with unfair tax subsidized labor costs. They got carveouts on dealer licensing schemes. Then when they decide to get out of the gun market they make sure to take everybody down with them.

Walmart and the Walton family receive tax breaks and taxpayer subsidies estimated at more than $7.8 billion a year that is enough money to hire 105,000 new public school teachers [see Table 1 for state breakdown]. The annual subsidies and tax breaks to Walmart and the Waltons include the following:

Walmart receives an estimated $6.2 billion annually in mostly federal taxpayer subsidies. The reason: Walmart pays its employees so little that many of them rely on food stamps, health care and other taxpayer-funded programs. [see Table 2 for state breakdown]

Walmart avoids an estimated $1 billion in federal taxes each year. The reason: Walmart uses tax breaks and loopholes, including a strategy known as accelerated depreciation that allows it to write off capital investments considerably faster than the assets actually wear out.

The Waltons avoid an estimated $607 million in federal taxes on their Walmart dividends. The reason: income from investments is taxed at a much lower tax rate than income from salaries and wages. In addition to the $7.8 billion in annual subsidies and tax breaks, the Walton family is avoiding an estimated $3 billion in taxes by using specialized trusts to dodge estate taxes and this number could increase by tens of billions of dollars. Walmart also benefits significantly from taxpayer-funded public assistance programs that pump up the retailers sales. For example, Walmart had an estimated $13.5 billion in food stamp sales last year.
