Is the State processing FOID renewals?

I know that my current FOID card has been extended due to the Covid19 situation so I am not worried about not being able to buy guns or ammo. But I wonder if this virus extension of the FOID and CCL means that the state has stopped processing renewals at all for the moment. My application for FOID renewal, submitted well before the upcoming expiration, still shows Under Review.

They are at least processing new applications but the 30 days as written in law is taking 51 days on avg so expect a delay on renewals too

Previous reports only had 5 or so staff. They supposedly have 10 new job offers out and another 20 positions to fill. See link above.

My FOID card will expire 9/1/2020 and the ISP website showed my expiration date as COVID 19. When I came back to the website to check if I could renew on June 4th (90 days prior) the renew button was active. I was able to access and complete the renewal application and pay my $11.00 without any problems. As to how long it will take to get the new FOID card, I have no idea. But with regard to the ISP accepting and processing renewals applications it appears that they are continuing to process. The automated email acknowledging my renewal included the following statement:

Thank you for submitting your application for an Illinois Firearm Owner's Identification Card. The Illinois State Police will issue your card pending verification that all information is accurate and meets state requirements. Renewals are processed within 60 business days. New applications are processed within 30 calendar days. Please allow up to 10 days for mailing before inquiring about your card.

If you have submitted for renewal and you are concerned about your current card expiring, see below:

Under the authority of 430 ILCS 65/5 (B), If a renewal application has been submitted prior to the expiration date of the applicant's Firearm Owner's Identification Card, the Firearm Owner's Identification Card shall remain valid while the Department processes the application, unless the person is subject to or becomes subject to revocation under this Act. You are encouraged to save and/or print a copy of this page as evidence of your renewal submission and the validity of your current FOID status.

I have the same question specifically in regard to CCL renewals. It appears that some forum members had their CCL renewals go Active around April 28. However, it doesn't appear that there has been much in the way of postings regarding CCL renewals going Active since then.

It looks like some people have had their initial application go Active but not any posts specifically indicating renewals that have gone Active.

In my case, the inspect element status went to QC_Verified on May 6 and has not changed since then.

With the state making the FOID and CCL a non expire card right now it depends not the amount of days.

With the staffing and I’m sure many other issues being faced, you have a valid card and by now all PD’s have be made aware of same.

Yes they are and it is very disturbing they take this long. But at the same time they recognized that they needed to extend the dates and did so right away.

Sit back chill have another beer n burger, it will show up.

If the state issued a check for 12 months and no one would cash it? I couldn’t order ammo on line with an expired FOID, many shops will not accept it no matter what they read in the press. We got CC not by the benevolence of our legislators but by court order. This state is run by thieves and scoundrels, we’ve been a political punch line for decades. WE play by the rules, they don’t, we make a mistake, legal heck, they ignore the law and just say tough.

New to the group, have to reply here. Renewed my FOID in December, 6 months later still in pending review. Applied for CCL in January, 5 moths later nothing. Wrote my Representative yesterday, Patiently waiting...

This was my response to being informed that they are running behind...like I didn't know this..

In all fairness I am familiar with the process, as it has been explained to no end.

FWIW countless law abiding Illinois residents like myself find this as an inadequate process for any reason. Also unless the "glitch" has been fixed if I was to try and purchase a firearm now and have the dealer submit my 4473 I would be denied due to my FOID being expired according to the system, not as it has been said that it's been extended.

A delay in process I could readily understand at this time due to the given circumstances. An adequate response from the authorities responsible for the handling of the permits would be welcomed. Basically feeling ignored by this "system" and those managing it, well frustrating would be the most concise word I would choose, no real timeline of what to expect the delays to be even more so. All of them and yourself work for me, not the other way around.

I along with many others pay my ever increasing taxes, see more failures in our government, and have less confidence in oaths of office being abided by. Simply put our Constitutional Rights are eroding before our eyes, the very foundation we Americans hold dear and sacred.

Thank you for your response, I will continue to post your sign in support of what I believe you stand for, and vote accordingly,

First, Welcome to the Forum

Second, You're preaching to the choir

Third, run your FOID through the ISP firearm transfer site, that will let you know if your FOID is still honored

Thank you for the link, I will pass this along as it should be.

Preaching is not on my list. passing information along is. As I said above if they simply provided a timeline of where they are in processing it would maybe qualm some of the questions. Still it is not within their set forth guidelines. Have a blessed day.

Honored and valid by state but LGS policy may not if the card shows expired. I know the link is the person to person check and hopefully reports are correct they have fixed the error returning an expired card in error.

I can't imagine any LGS that would turn down a sale because they were too lazy to run the FOID and see if it is good to go except maybe Rural King, but I wont buy guns from them anyway An FFL that is not aware of what's going on, I would pass on them.
