what is the deal with my application?  Applied in March 2019... in July got a notification my photo didn't meet standards... sent in a new photo, status is now "under review".  Why is mine taking so long?  I have a FOID card and no convictions whatsoever.

Because this is Illinois and that is how we roll.

The timeline starts all over once they get the corrected photo!
Many have had issues with certs, photos, missing 1 number, hours not correct on cert.
Either way, they start the clock all over when they get a complete application.

Now do the right thing, or at least the funny thing!
Shred or cut up into tiny pieces that FOID and CCL if you had one and put it in an envelope.
Drop a note into the envelope explaining how happy you seem to be now over in (state name here) and that it was a pleasure working with them!

Actually in 2013 I turned in my foid the day it was requested by ISP.Played by all the rules and waited my 5 years.Being where I am now.I look back and cannot help but feel those in Illinois are in a totally different country.Springfield Armory makes great weapons,and it was so great.To walk into a store.show my I.D.do some paperwork & walk out 30 min later.With a Springfield Saint and lots of ammo.

 Wish only the best to those in Illinois.I feel vindicated and hope only that one day.The people of Illinois will have the same freedoms enjoyed in a state that still enjoys freedom of the 2nd amendment.Looking from the outside.It is hard to see Illinois as anything but a communits,socialist soon to be police state.

Hi,  for a New/First Application ...

1. 16 hour CC training on 8/03 + 8/04/2019

2. CCL application submitted on 8/05/2019 with finger prints

3. CCL approved on 10/30/2019

Total date count was 86 days.

FOID training completed 7/25/19
FOID approved (website) 8/22/19
FOID arrived in mail 8/26/19 
CC training completed and CCL request submitted (with fingerprints) 8/31

As of today (11/22/19) it's still "under review", but I will edit this post when it comes through as approved.  Judging by everyone else's posts recently, I'm thinking perhaps this next week (Thanksgiving week) although I suppose it could be sooner or later because of the holidays.  Hopefully sooner.

 

For those wondering, it seems like ISP looks at the 90/120 days thing like this (I'm no authority, just an observation based on what I've seen):

• It's actual days, not business days (30, 90 or 120)
• They seem to count the day something was submitted as one of those days
• Even though it only takes a minute or two to verify our info, they're almost always going to wait until the deadline to issue FOID or CCL (annoying, but I guess I kind of get the logic)
• Denials also seem to mostly take place near the end - it's basically like they don't even bother looking until they're within a week or two of the deadline
• Usually in the last week until the deadline is when they issue - but let's see how the holidays affect that

Also I don't know why people seem to treat this whole process like "NBD" or whatever.  I'm from GA and this whole process shocked me - to have to basically beg for a constitutional right and hope that they'll grant it...after paying a lot of money and waiting, maybe they still won't?  And even if they do, you can't just go buy that thing and use that freedom!  No, you have to wait - and you BETTER make sure that the government is 100% aware of anything you do with those or any purchases you make.

Creepy.  But I digress....I'll update this post with the dates when stuff comes through.  Sorry for the rant.  I'm pretty much checking the FOID website every day now to see when it'll be approved so I can finally (hopefully) exercise my God-given right...ya know, if the government is cool with it.

My CCL is finally showing Approved. I checked before going to bed and had to do a double-take. Now, I just need to wait for it to show up in the mailbox.

 

February 12th: Applied for CCL without prints

 

May 31st: FOID Renewal applied for. FOID Expiration is 8/1/2019. I don't know what the inspect element was showing, as I didn't know about this yet.

(108 days into CCL wait)

 

August 2nd: FOID Successfully renewed. But, CCL "Denied" due to incomplete address/residency information. I corrected the address info, making sure it was over 10 years and resubmitted through the website

(171 days into CCL wait)

 

November 27th: Did the daily status check and the inspect element showed Approved

They’re officially three days past the deadline at this point. Grrrr. I know for a fact I’ve never had any sort of tickets or charges or anything else in my history that would cause the search to come up with any reason for denial. Perhaps the holidays have something to do with it?

I’ve never had any issues in any other state. It’s extremely aggravating that I have to pay so much money and wait so long for them to not even do what they’re legally obligated to do - allow me, a law abiding citizen to exercise my constitutional right.

I’m officially NOT a fan of this state, of Chicago and of the ISP. They really need to get their crap together.

245 for my renewal.  I made the mistake of sending mine and boss lady's renewal through the same email address.  They approved hers and rejected mine.  Resubmitted mine and who ever was doing the review ignored the original review and claimed the hours were insufficient, assuming it was a new app.  Finally had to channel the marvelous Molly B and had an approved renewal with permission slip in hand after less than two weeks.  Thank you Molly!

Just posting a note, while waiting for my renewal, to express how utterly shameful it is for our state to willfully deny a right for one quarter of a calendar year (or more) if you don't supply fingerprints like some criminal.  And if you do pay to get fingerprints, and supply them, now you only wait 3 months.  This has got to change, it's just inexcusable.  Nothing should take 3 or even 4 months to process.  Nothing.

I Submitted My CCL With Prints 8/27/19 They Waited Till My last day to look at my app 11/24 they put me under board review. And iono why Cuz I got my whole record expunged a year b4 i even applied for my CCL. This is ridiculous

That's nuts.  I don't know what "board review" is...but it doesn't sound fun.  Good luck with that.

They're now five days overdue and I'm getting the same issue as Jeffrey - when I call them I get no answer.  Well, the second time I called I got an answer...followed by an immediate hang up.  What is with these guys?  I've literally only ever had one speeding ticket and one driving without insurance charge - that was almost a decade ago and 900 miles away in another state.  I've NEVER had any sort of criminal charges, DUI or anything like that in my whole life.  I follow the laws, pay my taxes and even help old ladies across the street and volunteer at a homeless shelter.  I don't drink or smoke or do drugs, not even the legal ones.

The irony of having to do the stupid training was that I used to train law enforcement on this stuff myself!  I actually ended up teaching my instructor a bunch of stuff.  But when the government tells us to do something by a certain date, we had dang well better do it or they'll send you to a rape cage....but when they're late?  No "sorry", no nothing except a bunch of people who don't care and wasted time and money.  Pay a bunch of money and wait a lot of time to exercise a constitutional right....IF they ever get around to doing their freaking job.

Sorry to keep ranting about this, but it just makes me so angry.  I've got many friends that are active LEOs but I've never liked anyone from any state agency and it's for reasons like this.

Anyone else getting this stupid hangup message when you call ISP?  You press zero to get through to someone per the instructions, then they have this recorded message that says "If you're having trouble getting through to someone between the hours of 8 and 5 PM, please try again later as we are experiencing an extremely high call volume" and then the line just hangs up on you.

 

No callback option, no option to wait...just eff you and a hang up.

 

Grrrrrrr!!!  I'm really hating on these guys lately.  Who's running this monkey show anyway?!?

Maybe the ISP should start paying Molly with some of those extra millions they have for processing where the law states that the fees shall be no more than the actual cost of the process. There's noway in heck, it's costing $150 to process, esp when we are talking renewals!

Supposedly theres 5 people in the department handling requests, applications and processing. A recent audit showed almost 20k calls alone per week. They are putting in a new expensive VOIP system thats going to make it all better *ahem*

I called Wednesday the day b4 thanks giving around 8-9 got thru. But when I called late in the day no answer. That might be ya best bet. But the lady had absolutely ZERO info about my app so good luck with that. I received more info here than from ISP

The website is showing as "active" now, more than three months after I paid hundreds and hundreds of dollars to hopefully be able to pretty please exercise what the constitution says I can do freely.

 

The first chance I get, I'm leaving this state.  Corrupt top to bottom, they punish the law abiding for the crimes of those who they treat with kid gloves and apologize to.  Criminals freely wander our streets and treat this city like a toilet, all while our overlords pander to scumbags and tell hard working people like me that I'm the problem.

 

F*CK Illinois, F*CK Chicago, F*CK the scumbags in power and F*CK the mental defectives that keep putting them there.

 

I'll update my post when my card actually arrives...if they can ever get around to doing that.  I'm not holding my breath.
