Current wait time for address changes for FOID

How long's the current wait for an address change on a FOID? Is it true that there's a brief period of time (a day or two) where the current card becomes inactive while you're waiting for the new one?

It took mine 18 days from send to receive.

That's not bad, I was expecting more like 45 days.

EDIT: Any word on if your current card gets deactivated at any point during the process, or only after the new one is received? Rather not run into trouble with the law while awaiting the new card.
