Legislative Update 11/18/10

First week of veto session is over. Nothing of note happened on guns or 2A issues.
A church group from the Gold coast came down to make some sort of plea for gun control. Got to meet some of the incoming freshmen, and some of the replacement legislators.
We handed out 15 bills for the next session in the House. Just the first round, more to follow as I get them drafted and we kick around ideas.
RTC was handed to Rep. Phelps. Now before everyone gets all whacked out when the read it, it is the same as HB-462 from this session. WE have been working on a major re-write of the bill. And are still talking to law enforcement groups to get their final take and maybe approval. That being said, it is easier on staff to analyze the bill. They can simply dust off the old one from this year, change the bill number and they are done. The bill will be amended. It will be substantially better and changed. But we don't need to tip our hands on this to early and give them 2 months to work up arguments. So please bear with us.
We will start dropping bills off in the Senate in two weeks. Along with more House bills. I can tell you the mood at the capitol is very positive. We have a lot of new developments at the capitol. And I feel very, very good about things.
We expect them to be able to pre-file bills after the 1st of December. Not sure how long before they are online after that, but you'll be able to see them when they are.
We are back in on the 29th. Then we come back after the 1st of the year.

Or, will someone just step in to push the same nonsense in his absence?

since I won't be out for gun season this weekend, I'll have time to keep writing.

Todd, I'm betting it was Gary Forby. He was there and that's his Senatorial District. Sic 'em!
The Roman Empire fell due to a large, corrupt government, overspending, an overextended military, insecure borders, and the illegal immigration of Goths, barbarians (anyone who was not educated), and religious fanatics. Sound familiar?

"sagotaged"??
Which bill number was that and which session? You are aware that many times bills are introduced with the intent to amend them to something completely different than they started out as?? Brandon Phelps has been a very strong supporter of all things 2A and has the advantage of being a member of the majority party. I'd be damned sure of my facts before I accused him of "doing something idiotic".
What's the matter with a carry bill for judges anyway?

Naw, just persistent. Advanced search for Franklin, found the thread on the meeting, read the media reports, Forby was on the program. Had to be him, and he is very pro-gun, I've heard him before.

Great, until Phelps does something idiotic like change it to a carry bill for judges only.

He already sagotaged one of his own bills by doing that.
