FYI, I'm a member of an organization called Knife Rights. It's having success getting 2A legislation passed for knives. I believe Knife Rights helped with that "Wisconsin Switchblade with CCW." I wrote my State Rep and Senators "Illinois Switchblade with CCW" but it didn't progress.

Also, I won a very nice KABAR knives in Knife Rights latest raffle. :)

I've carried a knife everyday for 6 years now. Should be part of everyone's edc. Aside from being another line of self defense, it serves sooooo many different purposes. Also got me into knife sharpening. Best advice is don't buy anything that is not made in USA.

For the most part I agree with your last sentence however there are two brands that I own , not made in USA , that I am very happy with. The first is Puma knives. The ones made in Germany are top quality and I own several of them but you have to be careful because a lot of them are made in other countries.

The second knife manufacturer is Morakniv made in Sweden. I have the companion . It is fairly cheap in price but holds up well so far.

In a self defense situation I'd rather have a Chinese made knife than nothing.................

.

While this is true, a knife that won't get sharp or stay that way is a lot like a 4 1/2 lb carry gun-you won't have it with you when you need it. :)

All kidding aside though, there are a couple decent Chinese steels out there, but they are hard come by because nobody puts "high quality Chinese blade" on their box.

There are lots of affordable knives out there with decent blades. Some of them are steals. One need not compromise.

Is this Benchmade knife legal in Illinois?

http://www.benchmade.com/media/catalog/product/cache/1/image/9df78eab33525d08d6e5fb8d27136e95/c/l/cla_1000x1000_2.jpg

The Benchmade company calls it their CLA family.

Do you have to start the blade moving with your finger/thumb or can you just push a button and it pops open? If you just push a button it isn't legal .

I looked this knife up and it is an auto knife. Not legal in Illinois , yet.

I beleive knives are arms and therefore I have a right to bear knives as well as guns, and I have carried a knife on me daily for the last 21 years.

Has there been any meaningful activity on the knife rights front lately? Some of our knife laws are more draconian than some gun laws. Plus most of these appear to have been passed by Victorian pearl clutchers afraid of a "rumble" happening in their neighborhood.

There was a recent thread discussing a new bill for auto knives which went to committee, but I dont know if there is life there or thats where it goes to die.

Are there any laws against carrying those spring loaded batons?http://www.foxtrot-productions.co.uk/newsite/wp-content/uploads/2012/08/O__2625_TelescopicSpringBaton_720.jpg

Dont recall them being named specifically, but if they are considered as a bludgeon, then you might have an issue depending on the attitude of who has you stopped.
