Mark Marchiafava says heís earned the right to wear his .357-caliber Magnum pistol in a hip holster in Gonzales.

And, he says at a local mall, city residents paid him to demonstrate that right.

ďI wish the taxpayers of Gonzales knew just how much money it is,Ē the 55-year-old Marchiafava adds.

In January 2006, the longtime Baton Rouge resident was at the same mall, wearing the same pistol, when a Gonzales police officer asked him why he was carrying a gun.

Marchiafava says he told the officer that non-felons can legally carry firearms that are not concealed.

That exchange led to Marchiafavaís arrest on a count of illegal carrying of a weapon. The arrest led to an hours-long stay at the Ascension Parish Prison.

In Gonzales the law is whatever the cops say it is! Sounds like some parts of Illinois.

For anyone visiting La who might what to open carry. Opencarry.org says La has preemption excect orinances in effect prior to premption appear to still be in effect and loacalities can still regulate carry of firearms in 1. Certain commercial establishments 2. Public buildings

Marchifava apparently knew there were no local ordinances, or none on mall carry.

I wonder if he bought that motorcyle with the money from the settlement. Anyone know the approximate value of the motorcyle next to him in the picture?

People who break the law should not carry guns. Sounds like the arresting officer was breaking the law.
It's a wonderful day in the hood...

I can't make out the exact mkae/model of bike but it is not a HD. Could be a Honda ST or BMW. The Honda ST (Sport tour) runs about 13K the bimmer porbably closer to 20.

A veteran - whether active duty, retired, national guard, or reserve

- is someone who, at one point in his or her life, wrote a blank check made payable to The 'United States of America', for an amount of 'up to and including my life.'

That is Honor, and there are way too many people in this country who no longer understand it.
