How long yo get your certificate

Hello, first time poster here.

I recently decided it was time to get my conceal carry permit so this past weekend I signed up paid my 150 dollars and did the 16 hour course and passed the shooting with flying colors. I still haven't received my certificate from my instructor, she said she would be busy this week and would email it to me a soon as possible, I emailed her today and she said it was on her list of things to do but so far nothing. My question is how long is too long to wait for your certificate and how long was it for everyone else, how was it given to you by email attachment or hard copy in hand? IMO I should have walked out of there Sunday evening with a hard copy or the very latest Monday via email attachment. I really hate to complain but I want to get all my information turned into the state police and get the process started ASAP. Thanks ahead of time for any and all help.

My guy printed it right in class. For $150 I guess you get what you pay for, most people charge more.

In central Illinois 150 dollars is the standard rate as in that's pretty much what everyone charges, I actually could have done a class for 99 dollars but I wanted something with more detailed training so if you're insinuating i cheaped out that's not the case.

I would not have left without the certificate. Sounds like an unscrupulous instructor to me. You should Let everyone know her name. You could tell her that is on your list to cancel payment.

For me, one of the highlights of teaching any firearms course is handing out certificates and shaking the hand of each student at the end of class. I could be wrong, but it sounds a little suspect to me. Double check that your instructor's name is on the ISP database. I think ISP requires a live signature on each certificate, so emailing the certificate sounds off, too. Unless she prints it out, signs it, scans it, and emails that to you. If you go too long without a certificate and can't get a satisfactory response from your instructor, please contact ISP about it.

That would suck if the instructor's certificate was "also in the mail", therefore making her unable to print the certificates or teach the class.

The certificates come off the ISP website under the instructor section, correct?

Couldn't the instructor just sign it on her computer and email it? Or does it have to be pen to paper signed? It's a digital upload to the ISP website anyways so you wouldn't even need a physical copy, correct?

At this time I don't want to put out any names on the board, this morning I talked to the owner of the gun shop where I took the class, he was very understanding of my concerns and said there was a printer problem and he would talk to her and make sure I received the hard copy of my certificate today, he also said he would get back to me ASAP......i'm still waiting.

As a side note IMO the instructors should be required to issue the certificate as soon as the class has ended and the student has filled all of their requirements.

Finally received my certificate today, I had to drive back over there and pick it up, IMO waiting 4 days for my certificate is unacceptable and I will never recommend her to anyone that asks. I also applied for my CCL this afternoon so let the waiting begin.

Thanks again to all that took the time to answer.

Yeah, if the instructor hadn't received her approval from ISP prior to teaching a class, that would actually be a criminal offense.

The certificates are a fillable PDF file that ISP used to have on their website, but the took them down. I don't know if there was a problem with people falsifying certificates?

I do remember reading here in IllinoisCarry that an instructor had been using a stamp of their signature instead of signing each certificate. ISP kicked them back and told the instructor that they needed a live signature, not a rubber stamp.

Well, I'm glad you got your certificate, bmurph44. I can understand having technical difficulties with a printer, but you shouldn't have had to wait so long. Now the real wait begins! Fortunately, it looks like processing times from ISP are down and your wait shouldn't be too long. Hopefully the Holidays don't slow things down. Thanks for joining IllinoisCarry. Welcome Aboard!

I always have the certificates printed and ready to be handed out to the students at the end of the class. No exceptions. There was only time when I had an issue because the student screwed up the certificate and I had to mail him a new one.

Exactly - the instructor should know the names of every one in the Day 1 of the class to have certificates ready for Day 2. We had our certificates right after the qualification shoot.
