Hearing Schedueld 8/23

Recommended Posts

Yesterday, the Senate Judiciary Sub-committee on Firearms posted a subject matter only hearing for next Tuesday, August 23rd on SB-2130 a bill to remove the preemption on semi-auto bans, allowing local towns to once again have control over certain segment of firearms and enact bans.

We do not think this will be the only hearing to take place this summer/fall.

Since the Bill is still in the Assignments committee we do not know if there will be witness slips or not. We are being told this is being driven by Bloombergs Everytown.

More as it comes available

I'm curious what would happen if they succeeded, what impact it would realistically have. Most of the cities that want an AWB already had one, but I'm guessing that handguns would be at risk of being targeted, particularly the "high capacity" mags that come standard with XDs and Glocks.

Thanks for the update Todd; I will keep an eye peeled. Shall Issue and Local preemption are the only two shining lights of our carry law in exchange for the massive list of where we can't carry so we gotta nip this one in the bud.

So, why not a hearing on removing force of law from the stupid signs? Why not a hearing on stripping most if not all of the 23 crash landings from the law? Keep preemption and shall issue, and get rid of all the crap the anti's put in.

No more compromises, I want my cake back!

Is it common for hearings to be held outside of Springfield? Or are there different rules for subject matter hearings?

From an earlier post, this looks to be held in Chicago

..."State Sen. Terry Link (D-Vernon Hills) said that if Senate Bill 2130 was able to pass, there might be enough votes for a statewide ban.

"We are not saying 'no guns' or taking guns out of the hands of law-abiding citizens," Link said. "But there is no need for assault weapons and cop-killer bullets in this atmosphere."...

Has anyone noticed that there have been more stories lately about assault weapons being used in crimes lately? Are we being played, or is it just a strange coincidence?

I was thinking the exact same thing, and then the guy who got arrested for "machine guns" yesterday.

We are being played, we are always being played.

NO coincidence... semi-auto guns that look scary are again in the crosshairs.

and ...done...

It boils my blood every time some ignorant idiot that calls themselves a journalist promulgates the "high powered weapons" bulloney.

Removing preemption from semi-auto would enable a municality to ban all semi-auto pistols making only revolvers and single shot pistols legal.

This is about removing the preemption for the "assault weapons" bans, not all semi-auto firearms.

Amends the Firearm Owners Identification Card Act. Deletes provision that the regulation of the possession or ownership of assault weapons are exclusive powers and functions of this State. Deletes provision that any ordinance or regulation, or portion of that ordinance or regulation, that purports to regulate the possession or ownership of assault weapons in a manner that is inconsistent with the Act, shall be invalid unless the ordinance or regulation is enacted on, before, or within 10 days after the effective date of Public Act 98-63 (July 9, 2013). Deletes provision that any ordinance or regulation described in the stricken provision enacted more than 10 days after the effective date of Public Act 98-63 is invalid. Effective immediately.
