Time limit on part one of CCW training?

Hello all,

Last year I gave my wife Part One of the CCW training for her birthday. The business that she took her training from has recently informed her that if she does not complete Part Two within a year, she will have to re-take Part One.

The class I signed her up for was listed as a NRA Basic Pistol Class/Part One of IL CCW. Her certificate says nothing of NRA Basic Pistol Class and the current schedule online says nothing about it being a Basic Pistol Class.

I should also add that she has two months until the one year deadline. At this point, I do not think that she will pass the shooting portion.

My questions are:

1. Can the training company set an expiration date on training?

2. Can she tell them to shove it and find another instructor for Part Two?

Thanks in advance,

Paul

My training was also NRA Basic pistol day 1, remaining curriculum day 2. I received NRA basic cert for day 1 and then IL CCL cert after day 2. As Glock23 mentioned above in #2, its probably going to depend on what is listed on that day 1 cert. If specific to that instructor, I dont think you will have much luck.

I think you are telling him he wrong way to go abou it. If she signed up for an 8 hour NRA Basic Pistol class and passed. The Instrucor must give her the certificate. If not, my call would be to the NRA Training Center...…..They take a dim view of Instructors screwing students.

Your wife might surprise you on her ability to hit that big gorilla b27 target.

Her basic class should have had her shooting that well.

If the business did not issue a NRA certificate then she may not have gotten an official class which should never happen. NRA cerified instructors are required to notify their students when the instructor is not doing a NRA sanctioned class. I give this notice in all my ccl courses.

I can understand the business not wanting to keep track of one day students past a year.

We issue our own one day completion certificate to those who shot well enough. A few do need more help later free of charge.

I found her certificate of completion and it says:

"For successful of the (gun shop name here) firearms training center 8 hour course in basic handgun knowledge, safety, nomenclature, marksmanship, attitude, and skills necessary for carrying and operating a handgun in a safe manner. Meets or exceeds training requirements for Illinois Day 1 concealed carry and Iowa permits."

It is then signed by the instructor with her NRA Instructor number underneath.

If she signed it with her NRA number and advertised it as an NRA course she owes you an NRA Certificate. Would you send me a PM with her name, her NRA number and the shop name and the original ad if you have it?

Even if the current ad does not mention NRA basic pistol for day 1, a copy with wording at the time may be available through the archive.org web site.
