Fired on Monday

My job requires a valid Foid and CC card. I sent my renewal in for Foid on 11/2/19 for a 2/1/20 expiration date . Since 1/15/20 I have tried 681 times to contact ISP havent got thru yet. Both my work and I have emailed at least once a day no response. Status has been under review the entire time. Ive contacted both my rep and senator. Both were sympathetic and said they would call on my behalf thats not going to pay my mortgage or put food on my table next week. Its not like I waited to the last minute to renew my Foid I did it as soon as the renewal button was active. I dont blame my employer their insurance carrier is the problem no valid cards no insurance. God forbid something happens my employer would be on the hook for litigation fees hospital bills and whatever else. Granted the employer could then try and recover the cost from insurance company because technically my Foid is valid thru the renewal but at what cost to my employer. Is there anyplace to go to get help anyone else I should contact?

Your FOID is still valid. I do not understand your concern.

I do understand your annoyance, I went through it myself. But that is all it is, annoyance. You are not legally more exposed because of the inaction of the State Police. If you were fired for this one thing, you might have a cause of action against your employer.

... you might have a cause of action against your employers insurance company.

Has anyone attempted to educate them?

I once had a problem with my wife's health coverage... we had to get her MD involved, who threatened to work hard to make sure they could no longer do business in Illinois. Insurance is simply a form of gambling, and the house always wins.

FOID is valid while in process of being renewed.

It’s a know law and your employer should know this and accept as same.

The drama with the employer and insurance failing you, you need a new employer!

Personally love the number of phone calls made in a two week period too.

Anyone’s guess would be since you are now at the threshold of getting your card, it’s would be any day and yours will be in the same timeframe as thousands as posted within here.

Again, the FOID is still valid per law enforcement, state, firearms transfers, gun purchasing etc.

If valid for all that.......then valid for employment too!

It’s posted on the ISP web site and if I had it bookmarked I’d repost it here, but I digress.

Welcome aboard and Good Luck.

I would classify losing your job as a little more than an annoyance, so I doubt you went through the same. This is because corrupt politicians have mismanaged taxpayer dollars for a service to exercise a constitutional right. That is a systemic failure of our state and the foid system.

As youve said in the past you support foid, even called it to be expanded nationally, so dont be so flippant about its victims.

Yes, we know its valid legally but just like the gun stores refusing to accept a valid but under renewal FOID, its an employer policy. I think Ive heard Todd discussing many FFLs, including himself, refusing to accept a transfer with just a printed card showing expired even tough it is truly active. Its perceived as a risk they do not want to take.

Don't have anything more to suggest, just that I feel for you! This is what happens when there is no penalty for the state not meeting its own deadline.

^^^that^^^

The cronies making the decisions need to answer to all the questions. Where did all the money go? Why wasn't more used to improve the system like promised? Why only months ago were we as gun owners told that permission slips(FOID) need to become more expensive to support a system that is actually overflowing with so much money they were able to shift it into never never land?

I'm still pushing for 30 hours of education in constitutional rights, macroeconomics and brain cell utilization-- and a $500 fee -- to vote in the Dumocrat primary.

They may get lucky and receive their voting licenses a few weeks after the November 2020 General Election.

To the bold, I assume to be subsidized for any dem.

I do not understand any ffl refusing to sell a gun based on any expiration date. Their call into the isp service bureau getting an ok to tranfee the gun will absolve them of wrong doing. Are these ffl being anti-2A butt heads?

I could understand a chain store refusing based on a corporate policy set by a lawyer in another state.

Wow. Just ******* Wow.

I expressed this very concern myself several weeks back. I was told it was not a problem.

My FOID is still valid and I couldn't get fired or suspended because of the state's incompetence.

Well here I am seeing my fear played out on another unfortunate soul.

Time to start call reps and senators come Monday.

In the mean time I guess I just keep my head down and hope my employer or insurance co realize the situation.

What a small piece of heck Illinois has become.

Your ID's with their expiration dates are recorded on the 4473 along with photo copies in most cases and on the surface it shows your ID is expired.

It's in the dealer portion of the form a customer doesn't fill out, so most have never seen it or paid any attention to it.

People forget there are multiple layers of law and bureaucracy to deal with.

Have fun explaining to you IOI (ATF Agent) all the expired dates of FOIDs on your 4473âs.

What are you going to tell them during an audit years down the road-

Yes I know the cards were not valid, but really they were, itâs just Illinois.

Good luck keeping your FFL with all those major paperwork errors.

And no, logic does not count when it comes to paperwork, so forget explaining that they were really valid and the state approved the transfer.

Especially if you get an IOI new to Illinois.

The shop I worked at had enough fun convincing an IOI that a women working at the shop not only didnât need a FOID, but could not get one.

She was not an Illinois resident, so Illinois would not issue her one.

And he was a decent agent, just new to the region, and the idiocy that prevails.

I canât blame him for not comprehending that Illinois residents have more restricted rights in their own state than non residents.

It doesnât make sense.

I think it was his first taste of just what a headache dealing with this state was going to be.

And did anyone else have fun with TSA while flying when Illinois had the brainstorm to issue renewal stickers for your drivers license?

TSA- Sir your drivers license is expired.

Me-Turn it over

TSA- what?

Me-Look on the back

TSA- what is this, it can’t be real.

Then waste time while they got confirmation that yes the sticker on the back of your ID was valid.

People wouldn’t listen when we told them they didn’t want to get in line behind us, because we were from Illinois and it was going to be a cluster and take a while for us to get through.

Even at the Chicago airports it took a while for it to become commonly accepted.

We were flying a lot for business and I think we finally gave in and just stopped at the DMV and got replacement licenses, just claimed we lost them or maybe just requested them, I don’t remember.

Fun times they were.

As a Senior the SOS will issue you an ID card with an expiration date of 99/99/9999.

I usually use it for TSA checks and get a LOT of strange looks at airports outside of IL.

Was there some reason yu cheery picked the quote to create a strawman argument? Why did you not include the next part?? You are not legally more exposed because of the inaction of the State Police. If you were fired for this one thing, you might have a cause of action against your employer.

I have also said in other threads that IF there was evidence that the FOID system worked then there would be a basis for expanding it. But from what I can see there is no data to show it works. So please try and represent the truth.
