BigB Posted June 25, 2014 at 05:39 PM Share Posted June 25, 2014 at 05:39 PM Hi - First time poster, so apologies if my protocol is incorrect. I have recently gotten into restoring C&R rifles, and would like to do so more on a regular basis. To that end, can anyone tell me if acquiring a C&R licensee is worthwhile given that I would like to ship the rifles to my home in the city? Is it allowed if os what is the process? Their have been some changes as of late in the laws and I want to have the correct info before proceeding. Thanks! BigB

potomuss Posted June 25, 2014 at 06:52 PM Share Posted June 25, 2014 at 06:52 PM They don't need to sign off. You only need to notify them that you're applying by sending them a copy. (the one without the payment information) ETA:Here's the process I followed. We also have a thread about it here.

So I guess the answer to your question is "no." They don't need to.
McCroskey Posted June 25, 2014 at 09:30 PM Share Posted June 25, 2014 at 09:30 PM I have mine. It's a piece of cake. You have a copy that you mail to McCarthy and then the process just goes through. It's more of a courtesy than anything, honestly. No isses at all having C&R firearms shipped to me, although keep in mind that the C&R doesn't mean you can keep rifles at your home that violate Chicago's stupid cosmetic feature restrictions. I keep a couple things out at Article II for that reason.

jlowrie Posted June 26, 2014 at 01:01 PM Share Posted June 26, 2014 at 01:01 PM I've had a c&r for a while now and havent had issues with shipping. It is fun picking up a c&r item at the post office. I usually let my postman know that I'm expecting a 'sensitive' package and ask that he hold it at the post office for pickup. It avoids playing tag and makes it easier to pickup because the item isn't on the truck for delivery.

Saw something on there about no firearms to "Cooke" county, but that may or may not apply to C&R Holders. Either way it's an annoying change. McCroskey Posted September 10, 2014 at 01:49 PM Share Posted September 10, 2014 at 01:49 PM AIM Surplus does not ship anything to "Cooke" or Chicago. I've actually argued with them over this and got the usual "we're just a small business and can't afford lawsuits yadda yadda".

They state they won't ship firearms "inside Cook County". I'm hesitant to ask but do you think this would apply to firearms sent to dealers OUTSIDE Cook County on behalf of a resident of Cook County? I might as well ask...already told them I live here.
taxman213 Posted March 11, 2015 at 10:22 PM Share Posted March 11, 2015 at 10:22 PM So, I went to order a K31 from AIM Surplus the other day. I get an email stating I can't receive the K31 because my 03 FFL has a Cook County address. The funny thing is, from 2010-2013 I ordered 7 different C&Rs from them, one being a K31 in the past. I pointed this out to them but they wouldn't budge from their current policy which is not to ship any firearms to Chicago or Cook County. I don't live in the city; one of the nicer western suburbs. As much as I loved AIM in the past, I will no longer order anything from them. They are one of the most popular online vendors and will surely not miss my business which was 29 orders (and thousands spent) since 09' or 2010. BUT, when you have a BS policy with no factual basis, they deserve to get called out for it. It's a frickin K31 and there are no laws against a Cook resident owning one. Pretty much the only two online C&R outfits I will deal with in the future are Southern Ohio Gun and Classic Firearms. Both have been great to me and will get my repeat business J&G Sales is a sloppy outfit and they screwed me in the past (so I refuse to patronize them), but that is another story for another time. SO, I urge all you Cook residents to email AIM and tell them that their "Absolutely no firearms to Cook County" policy sucks, and that you will not be giving them any of your business. If you live outside of Cook and still feel strongly about their terrible policy, feel free to jump on the email/complaint train. Discrimination without a solid base (or any at all) is just flat out wrong. Take care everyone.
chislinger Posted March 11, 2015 at 10:45 PM Share Posted March 11, 2015 at 10:45 PM Their Chicago restriction justification is a law that says guns can't be transferred at a gun show in the city. Idiocy!

taxman213 Posted March 12, 2015 at 04:37 AM Share Posted March 12, 2015 at 04:37 AM Their Chicago restriction justification is a law that says guns can't be transferred at a gun show in the city. Idiocy! At least they gave you a reason! I'm not in Chicago so I'm wondering what their justification is as to the rest of the county. I did inquire through two fronts. One was the guy who handles the updating of the FFL (because I had to update mine upon purchase of the K31), and the other was through Bryan, who said to email him my issue and he'd forward it to their compliance guy (who obviously has his head buried in his a**). I heard back from the FFL updater, but not the compliance guy yet. Something tells me I won't hear from him or he'll eventually give me a BS reason like you posted. If anything positive arises, I'll be quick to eat my words and provide a complete update.

I think the fact that I had to update my FFL right after ordering was the reason it caught their eye. I was 7/7 with ordering C&Rs (one also being a P64 years ago) from AIM until this toy blockage. I had just sold a beech K31 in order to fund the walnut K31 purchase as I lack one with a walnut stock. Oh well.... I should be putting the cash towards an M1 Garand instead anyway.
