FOID denial because of address change?

smokehouse

Recommended Posts

We recently moved from East Peoria to Mackinaw. When we signed on the new house, I immediatly filled out an address change for both my FOID and drivers license. All the ISP site stated was Your changes are under review of the ISP.

Long story short, I went to buy a firearm today and my FOID was denied. I know none of you know me personally, but there is no other reason I can see for this besides the address change. Im not involved with anything concerning the law and my card doesnt expire until 2021.

Ive been calling the 217-782-7980 number, but pressing zero will get an automated message and it immediately hangs up on me.

This is the first time Ive dealt with this...is this common? I guess I cannot believe that my FOID would be suspended because I simply moved, how absurd.

When i put my address change in I waited until it was "approved" before I tried to do anything.

It seemed to me that they were treating this like a new application instead of just an address change.

I did notice that the new issue date was when the address change was approved.

So, my logic then, is if you tried before everything went through they it would be denied because it was not active.

Others might know more but this is what I saw when i put mine in.

Is that Mackinaw in Michigan? If so since you are now a resident of Michigan you can no longer have an Illinois FOID. Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk

I am assuming he means Mackinaw , IL just outside of Peoria.

What does the status next to your FOID in the online portal say? It is possible they chose to re-issue you a FOID with a different number based on the address change; invalidating the FOID currently in your possession.

A lot of people with the "Old" style of FOID have been seeing them re-issued in the "new" style for various reasons, usually though when you get a CC permit

My FOID and CC came back with the same number. But as stated i waited to carry or purchase anything until the portal came back approved from pending.

Doing some digging, this is exactly what happened (btw, moved to Mackinaw, IL). I updated my driver’s lincense and my FOID on the same day. Apparently, doing that meant my FOID temporarily didn’t jive with my DL. Because of this, I guess IL simply responds by suspending your FOID until you take action to correct that. Do they inform you of this? Nah. Why would they do a silly thing like that? Simply suspending a stupid card your legally forced to have in order to have a firearm based on an address change, then failing to notify you of of that action seems like a much more intelligent plan of action.

Yesterday was a cluster of my trying to get the DL facility to confirm what they currently think is my home address (which is correct, BTW), and my resubmitting my FOID change of address online.

Oh...and dont even think of attempting to call them at the moment. I tried throughout the day and was greeted with a “were getting lots of calls at the moment, try calling later” then an auto hang up.

This is an absurd mess...yet another reason why I despise the cesspool of a state...

There is no rhyme or reason to what the ISP does. My son and I did our address changes on drivers licenses at different times. Did not do our foid changes within a 30 day period because we were living between 2 places for 2 months and it slip our minds. I applied for my foid and CCL and received 2 Foid and one CCL card with new addresses with in 2 weeks. Then I applied for a new 5 year CCL and received it within weeks. I was amazed at how fast everything went.

My son is on 6 weeks waiting for address change. He had no record of anything and has never purchased a gun. I had a clean record and have been buying guns for years. This says volumes about our system as a whole.

Yeah...I just can't wait to see how long this drags on. Once I verified my "correct" address with the DMV, I re-submitted my FOID address change, that was now a week ago. Just checks and my status is still "under review".

I don't think the words "p***** off" can begin to describe how I feel about this one. Again, a suspended card because of a simple address change...

*UPDATE*

So I landed up calling the ISP directly on Fri...the info I got was interesting. Buy what the guy said, the website isn't operating correctly, nor is their call system. At this point, all they'll do is take down your info and put you on a manual call back list. He tld me to expect a call back in the next few weeks, M-S, normal business hrs.

  • 2 weeks later...

*FINAL UPDATE*

I never did receive a call back from ISP, calling any of their numbers just gets you hung up on. Finally, I sent them an email and funny enough, that got it done. My card is now listed as "active" and according to the email reply, a new one was issued on 1-17 and I should be getting it in the mail sooner or later.

Not bad, started the process 11-30-18, finally got approved 1-17-19...

...for an address change...

Good grief...

When I moved, I changed my CDL & ID first. Then, I waited 3 days b4 I changed my FOID & CCL. I tried to give enough time for the SOS system to update so there wouldn't be any problems w/ISP. Everything went through smoothly...
